Getting Closer to the Secret of R9 Exhaust Brand! [With Exhaust Sound Video]

Asia's competitiveness is tremendous.

Nowadays, the market price for a typical full exhaust system for a 250cc full cowl, such as the YZF-R25, Ninja 250 or CBR250RR, is around 700 to 800 USD. R9 Exhaust, which has started handling at Webike recently, has a lineup of full exhaust systems that can be bought from the amazing of 282 USD range that overturns this market price. I tried to investigate what this R9 Exhaust is, which has no information even if you google it in Japan.

What is the R9 Exhaust?

R9 Exhaust is an exhaust system brand established in Indonesia in 1996. Their lineup includes not only stainless steel exhaust system, mainly for the small engine sizes popular in Asia, but also a wide range of products from titanium exhaust systems, and are said to be the No. 1 exhaust system brand in Indonesia.

The design is straightforward and cool, with a shape that is in keeping with the recent European exhaust system trend. Especially, the weldments are pretty cool!

Since it has a proven track record in the racing scene, the so-called racy design and various details are very convincing. The webs familiar from motoGP are also compelling.

The price is also very low as only Asian production can offer, so you can buy a top class exhaust system for the same price as a STD exhaust system from the Japanese manufacturer, or even less.

Not only cheap but also proven track record supplying exhaust system for Moto2 and Moto3.

r911.jpg

The easiest way to estimate performance and quality is to imagine it in racing. In the world of racing, if a product can't demonstrate a certain level of performance, or even exceed the capabilities of other companies, it won't be adopted by a team.

Especially since motoGP is the world's most prestigious motorcycle race, a half-hearted brand won't even be able to be adopted. R9 Exhaust has actually been adopted in the moto3 (2015-2016), moto2 (2017) and class, which are the lower categories of that motoGP.

r914.jpg

Incidentally, Jorge Navarro, who rode with the R9 Exhaust in moto2 for the 2017 season, finished the season higher than the famous Quartararo. This is the result of a number of factors, so it's hard to talk about the performance of the exhaust system all together.

Also, in recent years, R9 Exhaust have supplied Honda Racing India with exhaust system for the ARRC and Asian Road Championships, where Japanese racers have shown remarkable success. Performance on the race track does not directly correlate to performance on the road, but the performance and quality of this product are far superior to what we expect from the Asian exhaust system.

What does Indonesian production actually look like?

r908.jpg

I know the feeling of subconsciously taking a step back when you hear the term "Asian motorcycle parts". However, I can say that this feeling is already a thing of the past.

In recent years, Indonesia's technological development has been tremendous, just like Yamaha's production of the YZF-R25 and XMAX in Indonesia. In the 4mini custom scene, there is no so-called Asian styling. It's a custom style similar to that of the West Coast in the United States, and it's beginning to exert a tremendous influence. It may have surpassed Japan.

In the case of R9 Exhaust, all aspects of exhaust system development, including design, manufacturing, assembly, and chassis dynamo testing, are done in-house. Among other things, the chassis dynamo is a necessity for the development of an exhaust system that pursues performance. It's a great point to have this. The development process itself is roughly the same as a Japanese produced exhaust system.

When our staff went to visit the factory, it's not quite the most advanced mechanized factory, but it's just as good as the ones you see in Japan for exhaust system production. They used Japanese machinery throughout and had a large inventory of brackets, pipes, and other parts for exhaust system repairs. It was like a well-managed manufacturing site.

Handling OEM production for famous manufacturers

In addition to racing support and development of their own exhaust system brand, they also manufacture exhaust systems for the Indonesian market for the famous European exhaust system brands A and L. OEM production itself is not uncommon and is often seen even with Japanese brands, but since the client is entrusting their brand image to us, the quality and performance of the product is required.

In addition to exhaust system, R9 Exhaust also specialize in titanium processing, so they manufacture titanium paddock stands (racing stands) as an OEM for the RCB brand. This stand is supplied to MotoGP teams. They used a different manufacturer's product before, but the R9 Exhaust was chosen as their stand supplier.

Let's hear what the R9 Exhaust sounds like

After all, it is a sound that I'm still curious about! It's a manufacturer that's been very active in the racing scene, and it sounds pretty racy too!

Comparison with OEM using Ninja 250

My mind is shivering.

I immediately installed this R9 Exhaust even in Webike, so I compared it with the OEM exhaust system. It is extremely difficult to describe the exhaust sound into words, but the sound of the deep bass sound is strengthened and the volume of exhaust system is increased 3 times. According to my memory of the exhaust sound record, the sound is similar to that of the MT-07 with the AKRAPOVIC exhaust system. Well, a picture is worth a thousand words. Take a listen first!
