PS250(249cc)Owner: Matsumo

This corner introduces one MY BIKE submitted to Webike Community every week.
The model introduced this time is Honda "PS250" and the owner is "Matsumo".

More than a decade ago, big scooters were enjoying a huge boom. With their outstanding performance as city commuters, manufacturers were releasing many models. Among them, the PS250, which was introduced in 2004, already had an eccentric style that set it apart from other scooters at the first sight. Other models were generally equipped with large paneled exteriors to give them an urban scooter look, but as you can see, the PS250 has almost no such covering. In fact, the frame is quite visible!
There is (probably) no such thing as a "naked scooter," but if one were to categorize it, the PS250 might as well be called that.

Honda's tagline at launch was "rough," "tough," and "heavyweight." In fact, its usability lives up to the copy.
The tandem seat can be flipped up to form a backrest, and a huge carrier extends under it. There is also space for a carrier above the headlight, and the bare frame can be used to attach side bags. For this reason, the PS250 is very useful for touring with large loads, such as camping and fishing. The rugged atmosphere of the PS250 also gives it a military-like appearance, making it popular among military-minded riders.

Matsumo chose the PS250 because all of these features stuck out to him. He is also happy that people look at him and say "What a motorcycle!" In fact, the loadability of the PS250 is outstanding, and even a 6-person tent (50cm x 30cm is typical) can be loaded with ease. It can also be used to hold a box of homestays, and is sure to boast an unbeatable load capacity! Anyway, I'm going touring with a full load! This is one of the models we unquestionably recommend to riders who want to go touring with a full load.

The engine is a liquid-cooled, OHC single-cylinder engine adopted from the Honda Foresight, and while its power and performance are not as good as naked or sports models, it is standard for a big scooter. Its off-roader-like styling and concept are similar to modern adventure scooters. It was born too early in its life.

This is my boss's PS250 posted by DoubleTrio. He is so dedicated to loading performance that you can almost hear him say, "I can't believe he would go this far! PS250 has plenty of room to carry more cargo, but the center Vietnam carrier (?) and front basket make it unbeatable. The center Vietnamese carrier (?), front basket, and other equipment make it unbeatable. The blinker guards and headlight guards also add to the heavy military look.

FROM MY BIKE COMMENTS

Motive for purchase

- Because it has a backrest even though it is a motorcycle, has a side brake, does not have a motorcycle cover, and has a military look that stuck out to me personally.

Advantages

- Driving performance
In a word, a moped with power. It has more than enough power for downhill driving. It can reach 80 km/h on highways without much acceleration, so there is no problem. However, the engine roars considerably when traveling at 100 km/h or more because the entire body is affected by the wind.

- Appearance
Personally my favorite of all bikes. I'm especially happy to see it from a perspective like what the heck that motorcycle is. I've only seen a few people on the same bike.

- Loading Capacity
Loadability of another dimension. A 6-person tent can be loaded. It is also possible to drill a hole in the back base and attach a box. I recommend the Henry Biggins sheet bag (size L), as it fits perfectly in the bag.

- Comfort
The backrest makes it much easier. However, the seat itself is hard and tires you out when driving long distances.

Disadvantages

- Customizability
Since the motorcycle is over 15 years old, OEM custom parts and service manuals are difficult to obtain.

- Riding
The power is perfect, but it is not a motorcycle that I enjoy riding. Since switching to the PS250, I ride the motorcycle far less often. To be honest, I've been thinking lately that I'd be better off with a car.

- Fuel consumption
About 30 km per liter. It would be nice to have a little better fuel economy. The tank capacity is 12 liters, so gasoline needs to be added after about 300 km.

Address to prospective buyers

I thought the price would skyrocket due to the camping boom, but since 2018 when I bought mine, the used market price has remained almost unchanged at 23,000km/ 530,000 when I bought mine. Although it is touted as a rare model, I don't see a future of skyrocketing prices, so it seems that the time to buy is when you want to buy. Also, since it is an old bike, it is recommended that you buy a used motorcycle from a motorcycle store that provides good support.
I had an oil leak in the front fork a year after I bought it.
