Motorcycle Tips「DIY」Recommendation for Occasional CHAIN LOCK Maintenance for Easy Operation

How to

Motorcycle theft. The most important thing to remember is that the best way to get the most out of your motorcycle is to get the most out of your motorcycle.
Motorcycle thieves take advantage of the owner's lack of skill to steal his or her precious motorcycle, which is desperately needed to be polished after even a scratch is found on it. The technique is becoming more and more sophisticated, and once stolen, you may never see it again, as the parts are dismantled or exported overseas.

Various security goods are effective in preventing such thefts. Immobilizers, vibration-sensing alarms, disc locks, earth locks, etc., are all available in a great variety of types and are very reliable. However, the most basic type of security goods is the chain lock. Hooked to a frame or wheel, chain locks do not require electronic controls or extensive work, and are easy to use every day. Many people probably love using them.

Chain locks are convenient, but one of the few drawbacks is that the more reliable they are, the bigger and heavier they become. Of course, the bigger and heavier the chain is, the harder it is to cut and the harder it is to move, which is an advantage in terms of security, but every day you have to pull the chain, go through a small gap in the motorcycle, engage the lock, and lock it. In addition, when the chain becomes rusty or dirty, it becomes even more troublesome.
The most important thing to keep in mind is that the chain is not only a good tool, but it can be used outdoors, so it deteriorates quickly in the rain and wind.

That is why I would like to recommend this issue of MOTO HACK. Here is a post by "Deputy Director" about chain lock maintenance. The means are very simple. All you have to do is to clean and lubricate it! Well, even a motorcycle drive chain needs to be lubricated regularly, so it is only natural that a chain lock with the same chain should be lubricated to keep it running smoothly, but surprisingly few riders do this kind of maintenance. All you need is parts cleaner, chain oil, and other common maintenance tools. No special tools are needed.

The lock is something you use every time you ride your motorcycle. If you can handle it smoothly with less creaking and rattling, you can avoid forgetting to lock it in case you forget to do so.

Maintenance of the KITACO robot arm.

I have maintained a lock for a GPZ900R that has been left at the store for custom work. The last maintenance was at the end of December 2020, about a year and a half ago.

I removed the cover as before and sprayed it with cleaner. After spraying the unused chain lube, wipe off the excess lube, and that's it. Removing and attaching the cover is almost muscle training.

Spray the joints with a generous amount of chain lubricant, then wipe off the excess lubricant with a rag.

Joints now move smoothly and can be placed in a circular position.

Thank you for your valuable ideas, "Deputy Director" who introduced the  "Maintenance of the KITACO Robot Arm.".
