「Owners Review」To Be Honest, What do You Think of the Honda “PCX”

Motorcycle & Industry

From the Webike Community's My Bike, the "Owner Review Summary" introduces various motorcycles based on the voices of owners who actually ride or have ridden them. This time, here's what the owners have to say about  Honda「PCX」.

To be honest, PCX is this kind of bike.

If we were to describe the PCX model in one word, it would be a parade of advanced features.

I've seen scooters on the streets as often as the Super Cubs, and some of them are rather old models, so I don't feel they are advanced or anything. What?! I can hear some of you saying, "Well, they're just as common on the street as the Super Cub, and they're older models, so they don't seem very advanced."

It was introduced in 2010. It is now more than 10 years old, but what is surprising is the number of full model changes that have taken place over the past decade or so, and the number of advanced derivative models such as the PCX150 (now the PCX160), a light motorcycle version, hybrid models, and EV models.

The PCX (125), the original PCX, was introduced in 2010 with an unprecedented feature called an idling stop system.
It became the talk of the town when it achieved the best fuel economy in its class of 53km/L on a fixed road test.

In the first full model change in 2014, LEDs, which were still rare at that time, were adopted for all lighting. In addition, the engine's friction losses were reduced to further improve fuel economy, achieving a good fuel economy of 53.7 km/ℓ (50.6 km/ℓ in WMTC mode) on a constant road test value.

In 2018, the vehicle will be equipped with a smart key for the first time in its class, and the frame and suspension have been redesigned to make the body more rigid.

The current model, fully remodeled for 2020, will be equipped with traction control (Honda Selectable Torque Control) as standard equipment, despite being in the 125cc class.

PCX has been equipped with cutting-edge features at each full model change. Therefore, even if PCX is called simply PCX, the equipment is completely different depending on the year. When purchasing a used PCX, it is important to determine the equipment.

The current PCX models are the 124㏄ PCX and the 156㏄ PCX160 (the hybrid PCX e: HEV will be discontinued in October 2022).

How do Webike users feel about PCX?

PCX

Used model price: (approx.) 2473 USD
Number of reviews: 201

Average Owner Satisfaction Rating: 4.01 out of 5 (1,421persons evaluated)

Notably, fuel economy, looks, and handling received high marks, exceeding 4 points, but most notably, the average satisfaction rating exceeded 4 points. The specs of this all-purpose scooter are highly rated, and it's few weak points are noticeable. Many of the comments touch on the full range of equipment, but the quietness of the engine and the usability, such as convenience in daily use, is very highly rated.

PCX, Quick Summary

Advantage

Very convenient for commuting and shopping
Good fuel economy
Quiet when the engine is running

Disadvantage

LED headlight is a little dark
Slow start because of the heavy body
A slightly high overall height makes it difficult to get a good footing.
It is a little hard to maneuver due to its large size.

PCX Owner's Voice

Here are some of the most impressive voices among the many reviews.

23 (Fumi)

Motive for purchase, intended use, and comparative modelsWide variety of custom parts
Advantages/Satisfactory points Easy to ride (if standard)
Fuel economy is pretty good
It doesn't look like 125 because it looks big
Plenty of custom parts
Disadvantages/Dissatisfactory pointsSlow start due to heavy body
The fuel tank is small
The helmet does not fit in the space under the seat (basically full face helmet is impossible)
Even more difficult if you replace the seat with an external one (of course).

Kyūpī

Motive for purchase, intended use, and comparative modelsI was looking for a moped with a disc rear brake and decided on PCX because of its style.
Advantages/Satisfactory points It is very easy to ride with good acceleration and light turning of the handlebars.
The motorcycle looks stylish and the size, which is hard to believe for a 125CC, makes it very satisfying to ride.
Disadvantages/Dissatisfactory pointsIt seems to have almost no drawbacks, but if I had to say so, I would say that it is a little hard to maneuver due to its large size and that its slightly higher overall height makes it a little hard to get a good foot grounding.
I think it is a little hard to maneuver because of its large size and its slightly higher height.
Advice for prospective buyersI think it is a good motorcycle to buy because it is the top-selling moped 2 class.
Because of its popularity, I am concerned about theft, so I incorporated theft insurance & an Amazon security buzzer. Compared to the N-MAX, it has a more luxurious feel, so I think it is a satisfying motorcycle. The quietness when using the idle stop function is impressive.

Kikiki

Motive for purchase, intended use, and comparative modelsOwned a motorcycle and 50cc moped with the regular license - 50cc moped laws are troublesome - Problems using trains and other transportation with Corona - Obtained small motorcycle license - Purchased PCX. Compare NMAX, Hunter Cub, etc.
Advantages/Satisfactory points Design, usability, fuel economy, and ease of driving are perfect so far.
Customization tools are abundant.
I am also interested in new fun activities such as touring camps.
Disadvantages/Dissatisfactory pointsA one-owner used motorcycle with a 2018 model year / 2000km on the odometer was available at a local motorcycle store and I decided immediately.
It's a popular motorcycle, so many people ride them, but there are so many of them and the used motorcycle market is abundant. There are also a lot of custom products, and I was happy to find real value in the YouTube videos.
The new '21 model is only a little sharper except for the frame and brakes, and I prefer the JF81, which retains a few of the curves of the first generation.
Advice for prospective buyersIt is not about the motorcycle, but about the store where you buy the motorcycle. There are many stores, even big ones, that are not very good at what they do.
If you want to buy a new motorcycle, I recommend you to go to a store directly managed by the manufacturer. Do not simply buy a motorcycle online when you want to buy a motorcycle you want to drive. I made a mistake with a motorcycle before.
I was completely lied to about mileage, suspension, accidental damage, etc.

Check out PCX's competitors

The PCX has been on the cutting edge of 125cc scooters, but its only weakness is its sibling, the PCX160.

The presence of this PCX160, which can be ridden on highways, has recently replaced the PCX160 as the main model change rather than the PCX (125), and parts such as the frame and suspension are becoming more and more rigid to meet highway requirements. As a result, the center tunnel tends to be higher.

So, the competitors would be scooters with fully flat floorboards that are easy to straddle and can be worn in any clothing. To name a few, Yamaha's Jog 125 and Suzuki's new Address 125 and Avenis 125.
