It's still fresh in our memory that Yamaha released three models in 2024, the YZF-R125, MT-125, and XSR125, all at once, which became a hot topic. Meanwhile, rumors are they will introduce a 125cc scooter from Asia. This time, the target audience is young people, and it seems that the "Fazzio", popular in Indonesia and Thailand, will be released Japanese.
Are they targeting young people with 50cc scooters?
Yamaha is currently manufacturing models mainly for the Asian market in Indonesia, and has introduced a 125cc 50cc scooter in Japan. The sports models YZF-125 and MT-125, and the neo-retro XSR125 are all targeted at younger generations, and compete with Honda's Monkey 125 and Grom with full-fledged equipment of 17-inch wheels.
Yamaha's 125cc scooter, the Fazzio, which is currently sold in Indonesia and Thailand, may be introduced in Japan in 2025. The Fazzio has a retro-modern atmosphere similar to the Vino and is popular among young people in Indonesia and Thailand. With its stylish design and the ability to be ridden casually in everyday clothes, the Fazzio has the potential to attract young people in Japan.
Convenient features such as smart keys and smartphone connect
The power unit of the Fazzio is a hybrid model based on the latest eco-friendly and reliable Blue Core 125cc engine. This Yamaha hybrid system uses a "Smart Motor Generator" that integrates a starter motor and a generator, and also incorporates an idling stop mechanism called the Start & Stop System. It is characterized by a quiet start-up sound when starting from an idling stop, and the electric power assist that assists with hills and initial acceleration realizes powerful acceleration.
A smart key system and a USB power source, which are necessities in modern life, are also standard equipment, and there is a large luggage space of 17.8L under the seat. Other attractive features include a double item hanger with a carabiner-type locking system for hanging helmets, and a storage space behind the front panel, making it highly practical.
In addition, the motorcycle can be connected to a smartphone via the "Y-Connect" application to manage motorcycle information and riding logs, and the full digital type speedometer can display the smartphone battery, message and phone notifications, etc.
Unveiled at the Motorcycle Show?! Hopes are high for a new standard Small Engine Displacement model
The local price of the Fazzio in Indonesia is 21.5 million rupiah, which is about $1340.46 in Japanese yen. The YZF-R25ABS is 70.83 million rupiah in Indonesia, which is about $4557.56 in Japanese yen, and the sales price in Japan is $4629.95 including tax. In other words, there is almost no price difference between Indonesia and Japan, so we can expect a reasonable price setting.
Yamaha is expected to develop a moped model using its own 125cc engine in the future, and the Fazzio seems to be a perfect model as a new standard moped. The body has a wheel size of 12 inches, which is slightly larger than the current 50cc model, but since the engine spec for the Indonesian model has a maximum output of 6.2kW, it will be possible to make it into a 4kW version with minor changes.
Details of the domestic specification of the Fazzio are still unknown, but it is likely to be unveiled for the first time at the 2025 Motorcycle Show. Please stay tuned for further information.
