From 40 years as it was to modern 17" complete
The latest 17-inch high-grip tires are fitted for added enjoyment. Sanctuary's RCM is made as a complete customization. This vehicle is a milestone, a milestone number, the RCM-500. With its bold, modern-looking single seat and paint job, it feels a little different from the RCMs we've seen so far.
Sanctuary Nakamura talks about the trigger for the production. This is no different from other Katana and RCM owners.
The motorcycle entered RCM USA, AC Sanctuary's North American group company, for disassembly shortly after this talk. The necessary parts were sent to Sanctuary's head office in Japan, and work began in the fall of 2019. Like the Kawasaki Z series, which the store handles a lot, there are examples of RCM's work on Katanas, and the method is well established, so the procedure should have been followed, but it was a little different, Nakamura said.
Diaz has a passionate vision of his ideal vehicle, and it was quite a challenge to make it fit his vision. The shape of the original vehicle is respected, and even when a single seat cowl is made for a Z1-R, the shape of the Z1-R is kept as much as possible. For this vehicle, however, the single seat has a modern shape, and we reviewed the balance of the entire vehicle to see if the shape would fit, and at the same time, we had to add functionality to it. We also had to make the seat function as well. We had to rebuild the seat rails, make the seat striker so that the seat could be opened and closed with a key, so that the battery could be accessed when the seat was opened, and also to fulfill other storage functions. I was impressed that there was a lot of one-off work like that, the kind of custom work that used to be done in the past."
The main frame was also modified by lowering the swing arm pivot to maintain the rear ride height without making it difficult to ride as if it had just been raised. The engine was replaced after checking and modifying the crankshaft, etc. for the GSX1100S, which were about to be ruined.
Diaz checked the progress of the project, and while he was satisfied that the motorcycle matched his image, he also placed additional orders. The left and right exhaust system and steering damper were added after the car was in the finishing stages.
Nakamura says, "I drew pictures and tried to match them up, and used a variety of other methods to give form to his ideas. As I mentioned earlier, we also had to make sure it was functional and durable, so it had been a while since I had experienced the difficulty of making it," said Nakamura.
In addition, the RCM-500, which took three years to complete, is more than unique enough, not only in its hardware specifications, but also in its paint job that brings a carbon x metal feel to the forefront. Many of you may have seen it because it was later tested on a closed course and displayed at the EK Chain booths at both the Osaka and Tokyo motorcycle shows in March 2022. The desire for what we love is the same in both the East and the West. On top of that, the Katana RCM, which has been modernized and tailored over the past 40 years, is also convincing in its build and finish. It seems to have become one such machine.
Detailed Description

The windscreen is smoked by Ohno Speed, the headlight is 5-bulb LED, and the turn signals are also LED. The mirrors on the carbon monocoque body are Magical Racing NK-1 mirrors. The clutch holder is Koken and the front master is Brembo RCM, and both levers have been replaced with ZETA RCM concept.

The Katana's distinctive one-body meter has been replaced with a STACK dash system (equipped with a liquid crystal display that displays engine tachometer, speed, etc.), and the meter panel is a one-off made of carbon and aluminum. The cockpit is equipped with an oil temperature gauge and Motogadget warning lights. The separate handlebars are Daytona, and the stem is a Sculpture φ43 stem kit TYPE3 with an offset changed from 50 to 37 mm. An Ohlins steering damper has also been added.

The fuel tank is made from aluminum and has been given a hairline finish by Sanctuary, and both the tank and the original side covers are finished with a metal and carbon paint scheme by YF Design.

The modern seat cowl is based on the Clever Wolf YZF-R1. The seat cowl was modified to fit the fuel tank and to use the inside of the cowl for accessory storage. The seat rail, which serves as the base of the seat cowl, was cut from the shock mount and then one-off made from aluminum with high precision. A seat opener was also made.

This motorcycle was originally a GSX1000S equipped with a 998cc engine with a smaller bore only. The crankshaft was prepared again for the GSX1100S, and after correcting the bends, it was assembled. The pistons were Vossner φ74mm forged and WPC treated rings were combined to make a 1135cc engine. The camshaft is a Yoshimura ST-1, and the ignition is a Uotani SPII.

The carburetor is a TMR-MJN φ40mm dual stack funnel design. Red funnels were selected for the short side and black for the long side.

The front forks are Öhlins RWU (ø[37 to] 43 mm) and the front brakes have been significantly updated with Brembo GP4 RX calipers and RCM Concept ø320 mm discs. The brake lines are an Allegri Scholt system, and are assembled with the optimal line/length for each motorcycle.

Rear brakes are Brembo CNC calipers and Sunstar discs. The exhaust system is Nitro Racing Titanium, but is a one-off left and right hand version.

The swingarm is a Sculpture wide swingarm with lower sway bar and racing stand hooks added. The front and rear wheels are forged aluminum O/Z Racing GASS RS-A wheels in the 3.50-17/5.50-17 (1.85-19/2.50-17 for the GSX1100S stock) size, which can be called the modern standard.

The frame is reinforced with original materials, the drive chain is offset and has a wide laydown. The pivot has also been lowered by 7mm.
