Addictive Monocular Headlights! Will YAMAHA “YZF-R15 V4” be Released Soon?

Motorcycle & Industry

The YZF-R15 (V3), which was first introduced in 2017 and is now in its product revision cycle, has been in the news for the past two years, but only at the phase of merely hearing the sound of the stairs but not seeing anyone coming down.

Just a few days ago, an Indian netizen caught what appears to be the fourth generation YZF-R15 test motorcycle on the street. The following spy photos and CG mockups from foreign media will introduce the possible appearance of the YZF-R15 V4!

Become the monocular headlamp of the new generation R DNA?

From the spy photos, it is clear that the front end is very different from the current model. The current model's two-eye headlights with central decorative air inlet design disappears and is replaced by a sharp double-eye daytime running lights with central decorative air inlet and single-eye headlights, which is very similar to the YZF-R7.

In addition to the huge difference in the shape of the front, the camouflage-covered side fairing also has all the differences. However, the front suspension that is also included in the mirror uses an inverted front fork with dual-piston calipers and a single fixed disc configuration. It is speculated that the YZF-R15 V4 will be equipped with the ABS system as standard (the V3 version only uses the upright front fork version with standard ABS, and the inverted front fork version does not have ABS).

Apart from the above-mentioned differences, the details of the frame, wheels and rear of the test motorcycle remain almost unchanged. As for the most power-related part of the engine, it is presumed that the current water-cooled four-stroke single-cylinder engine with a six-speed gearbox and a sliding clutch will be used.

After the spy photos appeared, foreign media also immediately released computer CG simulation images. It should be noted that these simulation images are all produced by media such as Aroelmoto and Motoblast lek. They are not the official artwork of YAMAHA, so they are different from the actual appearance of the motorcycle. There may be slight discrepancies.

If the appearance of YZF-R15 V4 is similar to the above CG mockup, it will definitely create a buzz again in the 150cc lightweight sports motorcycle class. In the case of the 150cc sports motorcycle, the appearance of the 150cc class is becoming more and more similar to its larger displacement sibling (the CBR150R is also very similar to the CBR250RR after the facelift). How will SUZUKI's popular GSX-R150 cope with this? KAWASAKI says 150cc class distance is not my scene.

Finally, since the test motorcycle is already on the road, it is speculated that the YZF-R15 will be revised and launched in its fourth generation version as soon as this year (2021). Let's wait and see!
