Review of the IRC RX-03 SPEC R, which has the Best Grip and Turning Performance of Any Bias!

New Product

Most of the new-generation bias tires launched by the companies in recent years have been positioned as basic models designed for all kinds of applications. Only one of these motorcycles, the IRC RX-03 Spec R, has been designed with track riding in mind and has been thoroughly tested for grip and turning performance.

If I describe it like that, some people might think that this tire is for serious or advanced users. However, the actual Spec R is quite friendly, so even if you were to switch from the RX-01 or RX-02, the company's basic models, you would not feel any discomfort.

The power of the Spec R with track riding in mind

Once you start to attack the corners, you will be amazed at how different the characteristics are from the RX-01 and RX-02. First of all, on entry, you can really feel the increased ground contact of the front wheels as you brake, and thanks to this ground contact, you can roll the vehicle over with confidence. The deeper the banking angle, the more you can enjoy the outstanding turning and stability, and if you put your right hand to the wheel when exiting, you can feel the rich traction from the rear wheel. Because of these characteristics, sport riding on a Spec R motorcycle doesn't have the same sense of reserve as the existing bias.

However, for absolute speed and reliability on the track, the high-grip sports radials may be the better choice. But, considering that the price is half to two-thirds that of a radial, no one would argue with the RX-03 Spec R, which has achieved the best performance of any bias.

Like the existing RX-01/02 and 01 Spec R, the RX-03 Spec R is compatible with 125 to 250cc sports models. The test vehicle this time was the GSX-R125.

There is no basic model of the RX-03, only the Spec R.

Built specifically for athletic performance

Performance comparison graph with existing tires produced by IRC. While the RX-03 Spec R's wet grip and abrasion resistance are not as good as the RX-01 Spec R and RX-02 (there is no Spec R in the RX-02), the other three factors have been improved to a level that can best be described as dramatic.

It warms up quite quickly from cold and gives the impression of being ready in a few minutes.

The crown radius of the shoulder section is larger at the front and rear to increase the ground contact area which contributes to stability at full banking.

The tread pattern is specially designed. In contrast to the RX-01/02, which has extensive grooves, the edges of the RX-03 Spec R are almost slick.
