World-class motorcycle racing to return to the legendary track

The Spa Francorchamps track in Belgium, scheduled to host the EWC 24 Hours of Spa in June 2022, has begun the first phase of renovation work in preparation for the return of world-class motorcycle racing. A total of €80 million has been earmarked for the renovation and infrastructure development of the Spa Francorchamps track in Belgium. Announced in May 2019, the new round of the FIM World Endurance Championship, the EWC 24 Hours of Spa, will take place in June 2022, which means the return of world-class racing to the traditional Spa Francorchamps track.

The Spa Francorchamps track had to meet FIM safety standards in order to host the World Endurance Championship again. It was announced that the first phase of renovation work had begun and was now underway. The renovation programme will cost €80 million over 10 years.

In the first phase, the track will be renovated, the run-off area will be enlarged and gravel zones will be installed at the five corners of La Source, Raidillon, Blanchimont, Les Combes and Stavelot.

The infrastructure for spectators will also be renovated. Several grandstands will be refurbished and a new 4,600-seat covered grandstand will be built facing the Raidillon, overlooking La Source Corner.

The EWC 24 Hours of Spa is scheduled to take place in June 2022.
