[Young Machine × Yoshimura Collaboration Model] MONKEY125 Custom Project #1. How to Disassemble

Customized Motorcycle

To commemorate the 46th machine of the year (MOTY) held at the end of the last year 2018, "Young Machine" magazine and Yoshimura's collaborator, Special Monkey 125 was born. On March 22 to 24, Tokyo Motorcycle Show 2019 was decided to be exhibited at Yoshimura booth. In addition, among MOTY voting participants, one lucky person who can get this MONKEY is decided at the venue! In this featured series, we will deliver a documentary on the production of 1 Special MONKEY to the world. First of all, lets start with the disassembly of parts for painting.

Let's make a Black x Red Yoshimura Monkey!

When it was about half a year since the reborn monkey was released to 125㏄, This is the project that started with the words, "Monkey is after all Customizing. Let's make it yourself". As the editorial conference went on, saying "How to customize and to pursue performance", we detected information that "Yoshimura is developing a full exhaust for the Monkey 125". Yoshimura's CG image created by "Young Machine" was well received, and a dream collaboration was realized here.

Specifically, it is equipped with Yoshimura's down type full exhaust like a predicted CG image, and the right side cover which is newly required also chose Yoshimura parts. The body color is a special color that homages Yoshimura Z1, so the tank, swing arm and under stem is painted black. Handlebar lowers the height with OEM parts of GROM and improves precision. It is originally black paint, so here is no need to repaint again. In line with this, the mirror is replaced from the OEM plated mirror to the black one, and the details are tightened.

Custom like CG on above photo by paint & exhaust system exchange from STD condition. As for the exhaust system, I tried to test it by installing several other types of exhaust system that are under development at Yoshimura. At the same time, the handlebar is lowered with a GROM OEM product, and try to increase sports. I want to take advantage of the original plating as it is such as Fender.

I asked for the cooperation not only Yoshimura but also various pro shops for production. "YF Design" was in charge of painting. First of all, we carried out work to separate the relevant parts from the vehicle as a step before requesting paint. Having said that, it was a difficult task to almost completely disassemble. So I decided to borrow the motorcycle shop "Attractive".

[Interviewed SHOP]
GARAGE ATTRACTIVE (2-5 Haramachi, Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo TEL:03-6302-1719) So this time, I asked "GARAGE ATTRACTIVE" motorcycle shop to disassemble the Monkey. The shop also deals with mini bike racing activities, mainly in motorcycle sales and maintenance.

This time, especially when removing the undercarriage, we can not work without a crane. By the way, although the step is not replaced, the step plate is attached to the swing arm and coaxial bolt with the monkey. So, if you replace it, you have to hang the machine as well as this time. At this time, after all, you need professional help.

The representative of "GARAGE ATTRACTIVE" (left), who was in-charge of the work this time, is working as an Assistant Director and mechanic in the 56RACING led by Mr. Shinya Nakano. Together with the mechanic Mr. Imai, Thank you very much!

Is it really difficult to disassemble the Monkey?

First of all

Lets start from the left cover. Since this doubles as the lid of the accessory case, the key cylinder must also be removed from the back side.

For Safety

Then, remove the bolted seat. And I will cure the battery under it just in case. Remove and taping the negative terminal to prevent short circuit.

Remove the tank

Unlike the carburtor era, the fuel tank is connected by a coupler with a fuel hose that leads to FI. It's a little tricky to remove. Work with it carefully.

Attention to the fuel pump

The tank has a built-in fuel pump. It must be also removed because it gets in the way when painting. You have to pay attention to the damage of the sensors.

Exhaust System also must be take out

The exhaust system has a two-piece structure. First, we removed from the silencer side. Because it is to be replaced to full exhaust system, After this, we removed exhaust pipe also.

Luxurious Casting

Because disassebling the fork and under stem , the part around the headlight was also disassemble. The brackets for painting were so extravagantly made with castings.

This part was also painted.

The handlebar and handlepostand the top bridge to be customized were removed. A special tool is required to remove the key unit.

Lifting up is required

It is necessary to use a crane to lift the vehicle body for removing undercarriage parts.

It's surprisingly hard.

The swing arm was removed. Because the pivot bolt penetrates the step plate, the step was removed at the same time.

Front forks was removed

At the end, after removing the F fork, I also removed the underbridge to paint and finished the work. The bearing was stored so as not to be damaged.

Disassembled! Finished!

The disassembly work was successfully completed by President Gota and Imai Mechanic. Working time is less than 2 hours. It was truly professional work!
