MOTO HACK: FTR223 Fender Transplanted to CB223S

How to

Honda CB223S OEM HACK

Introducing the passionate story of "Nutria 2" who rides a CB223S, from Webike Community's MOTO HACK Campaign!

He explains how to divert the stock parts of CB223S, which he knows well because he is the owner!

Brief self-introduction

I bought a low mileage used 2012 red late-model color in 2016. I would gradually get the parts for the early color I originally wanted and turn it into 2012 with a 2008 exterior.

Initially, I bought it with the intention of going touring, but as my body became a bit clumsy, my focus shifted to playing with it. It has become a seat motorcycle, but the passion has not cooled down and it continues to change in its own way.

A brief description of this HACK

The CB223S and FTR223 are siblings and share various parts. The red color of the CB223S is a silver fender for both the first and second half of the year, but I noticed that the red of the first half and the limited edition red of the FTR were similar, so I installed it on the CB223S.

Normal silver fender
This is nice and classy, like Ultraman, but the concept I decided on as soon as I bought it was to make it read anyway

Parts, tools, and things needed for this HACK

Front Fender for FTR223
Candy glory red

Part number: 61100-MCL-000ZQ

The dimensions are exactly the same and can be pimped out.

A tool to remove the front wheel: Jack and 17mm Spectacle Wrench
Hexagonal wrench (standard size): To remove the fender.

How to do the HACK, explanations, work instructions, etc.

The fender of the CB223S/FTR223 is not designed to allow a hex wrench to be inserted from the inside, so the fender cannot be replaced without removing the front tire.

This makes me realize how heavy the steel wheels are and makes me want to get aluminum rims. I thought it would be a good idea to change the bolts when changing the tires since there is a gap where a normal bolt of the same size would not interfere.

Summary of HACK

Advantage
The colors are very similar, to the point where you wouldn't even know it was a different color unless you were told it was a different color, and it doesn't feel different.

Disadvantage
To change the fenders, it involves hard work to remove the heavy tires. The difficulty itself is easy to do.

The rear fender is the only one that doesn't come in the OEM red color, so you can go fenderless or somehow install a chrome fender. I painted it myself.

The rear fender could have been finished a little brighter and more comfortable if I had amateur paint skills. Because I'm a terrible artist, I was worried about the unevenness of the color and it got too dark as I applied it.

Still, it's a lot of fun to work on, and not too tiring to do something fun! I'm not going to finish it all at once, but I'm going to enjoy slowly customizing it and pushing forward with my style.

FTR223 from which it was appropriated.

There are many parts that can be used for FTRs and CBs with the same headlights, gauges, forks, and other front parts, and the power unit (engine, exhaust system, carburetor, etc.) is almost the same.

For example, the FTR's power has been reduced from 19 to 16 horsepower between 2003~2007 and 2008 onwards due to changes in emissions regulations. The CB was released in 2008, so it only has 16 horsepower. In other words, just put an FTR early model exhaust system on the CB and change the jets to the FTR early model specs and you'll get 19 hp! I haven't looked into it in detail, so there may be other differences, but it doesn't seem like a very difficult task.

Thank you, Nutria 2, for posting that valuable OEM diversion HACK!
