Powered by a new boxer engine with full improvement
BMW announced that it will launch the new R 1250 GS and R 1250 RT, which are equipped with a new boxer (horizontally opposed two-cylinder) engine with improved handling stability, from December 22.
BMW's Shift Camshaft technology, similar to the new S1000RR introduced at the Milan show, is the first of its kind to be used as a mass-produced motorcycle for BMW. By adopting this mechanism, it became possible to variably control the timing and lift quantity (=intake air quantity) of the intake valve in the engine and to generate a more efficient and intact driving force. The Shift Camshaft is basically operated at the boundary of 5000rpm to switch the camshaft profile of the low-speed Side/High-Speed side, but also by the size of the throttle opening, to front and rear switching actuation speed. This allows the rider to switch between smooth, manageable low-Open/low-load and powerful high-open/high-load areas while reflecting the rider's intentions and giving the desired torque.
In addition, the camshaft profile on the low-speed side is set to open the two intake valves in the same cylinder at a slightly misaligned timing, which promotes the swirl of the mixture (a vortex like a circle when the combustion chamber is viewed from above) and improves the combustion efficiency. Despite the increase in the conventional 1169cc→new 1254cc and 85cc engine displacement, fuel efficiency was improved by up to 4%. The improvement is diversified such as the change of the drive of the camshaft from the conventional roller chain to the silent chain, optimization of the oil supply system, and the adoption of twin jet injector and new type exhaust system. As a result, a stable driving force in a wide range of rotation, improvement of exhaust gas and fuel consumption, and sensual sound were achieved.
It also optimizes fuel injection & ignition timing by means of knocking sensors, even when traveling in areas where fuel quality is not stable. This will keep you running wherever you go in the world.
GS is equipped with four driving modes, RT is equipped with three driving modes, both running mode interlocked DTC (Dynamic Traction Control) as STD equipment. In addition, it is also nice to have STD equipped with HSC (Hill Start Control) as a rider support at the time of starting the slope.
