Ténéré is the name given to an area of the south-central Sahara Desert, meaning "the middle of nowhere". Ténéré is a legendary name that began in 1983 with the YAMAHA XT600 Ténéré and was later inherited to the two-cylinder XTZ750 Super Ténéré.
In 1991, the YZE750T Super Ténéré, based on the XTZ750 Super Ténéré, brought YAMAHA its first victory in 10 years at the Paris Dakar Rally, and from that point on, the YZE750T Super Ténéré achieved an unparalleled record of three consecutive, unprecedented victories.

This year, the revived Ténéré 700 won the Red Dot award for YAMAHA 2020 product design, along with the YAMAHA Industrial Drone YMR-08. This is YAMAHA's 9th year in a row of winning the award since 2012.
Recently, the Ténéré 700 Rally Edition, a middleweight adventure machine inspired by the DAKAR of the '80s, has been unveiled. This also makes the adventure seekers awaits its arrival.
