YAMAHA Motor has announced the launch of the MT-07 ABS, a road sport model equipped with a liquid-cooled, 4-stroke, DOHC, 2-cylinder, 4-valve, 689 cm3, 270-degree crank engine developed based on the Crossplane Concept*, with minor changes for the European market. The new model is scheduled to released in Japan in spring 2021 or later.
The new MT-07 ABS was developed under the concept of "Accessible MT with a Fitter Body". It inherits the characteristics of the CP2 (Cross-Plane-Concept two-cylinder) engine, which has gained wide support from a wide range of riders, while incorporating a new design that further improves overall performance.
The new features include: 1) an EU5 compliant CP2 engine; 2) a more comfortable and upright riding position; 3) bi-function LED headlamps (Hi-Lo integrated), LED position lamps and flasher lamps; and 4) styling that has evolved into the next-generation MT series.
*The cross-plane concept is a design concept that effectively draws out only the combustion torque produced by the combustion chamber with little inertial torque.

What's new for the 2021 model year
1) EU5 compliant CP2 engine

The latest CP2 engine, a 689 cm3, liquid-cooled, two-cylinder, 270-degree crank based on the cross-plane concept, with a bore stroke of 80.0 mm x 68.6 mm and a compression ratio of 11.5:1, delivers a maximum output of 54.0 kW/8,750 r/min and a maximum torque of 67.0 N-m/6,500 r /min.
Air ducts, exhaust system specs (new 2into1 exhaust pipe and muffler integrated), ECU changes, and optimized fuel injection settings have been incorporated to improve the linear response at low speed when the throttle is slightly opened, while maintaining EU5 compliance. In addition, we have adopted valve seats with superior wear resistance (on the exhaust side), changed the dog angle of the transmission to improve the direct feeling when re-accelerating (2nd and 3rd gear), changed the position of the catalytic converter, and changed the position of the O2 sensor.
These changes have resulted in smoother torque output characteristics compared to the previous model and superior acceleration characteristics.
2) A more comfortable, upright riding position
The design around the fuel tank cover has been completely redesigned. The number of parts around the fuel tank cover has been reduced from nine to eight and the frame cover has been changed from die-cast aluminum to plastic. The knee grips have been redesigned to contribute to a more comfortable hold during sport riding.
A new aluminum tapered handlebar has also been adopted. The handlebars are 32 mm wider on both sides and 12 mm higher to fit a wide range of riders and ensure a more relaxed riding position.
(3) Bi-function LED headlamps (Hi-Lo integrated), LED position lamps and flasher lamps

A bi-functional LED headlamp that integrates low beam and high beam into one unit is used to provide a clearer illumination range and light distribution. The low beam provides good visibility near the border between the illuminated area and the outside of the area because of the low contrast and calmness of the light. The headlamps have a control unit located under the tandem seat, contributing to a more compact front face.
The flasher and position lamps are also the first on the MT-07 to feature LEDs. The position lamps are separate on each side, and the compact headlight surrounds make the MT-07 instantly recognizable.
4) Styling evolved into the next-generation MT series

This is the second update to the third generation MT series since the first generation in 2013, and the styling has evolved as well. Newly designed components such as the headlamp and other components have been incorporated, while the minimal structure has been sculpted in an appealing manner, and the parts around the headlamp have been boldly moved toward the center of the engine to recreate a tight, MT-like "mass" image. This is the first time it has been produced. In addition, the initials "Y" have been incorporated into the LED position lamps to represent the third-generation MT series.
The side view also incorporates airflow movements to visually emphasize the MT series' torque and power. The top view, on the other hand, features a tank cover that draws in air and protrudes, while the slim seat area supports the rider's freedom of movement, creating a large contrast to express the power of the bike's forward motion.
