HONDA MBX50 1982 Introduction | Reliving the Old Days of Honda Collection Hall

Motorcycle & Industry

The Honda Collection Hall is a museum for four-wheeled and two-wheeled vehicles located in Twin Ring Motegi, Haga-gun, Tochigi Prefecture. It was opened in March 1998 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Honda Motor Company and to convey the spirit of Honda's origins to many visitors. In addition, the company is conducting a riding test to see if the motorcycle is actually performing well. A video of the test ride was taken to allow you to see many of the models in action. We've compiled those videos, broken down by age and displacement, into a feature. Your first motorcycle may be here. We invite you to relive the old days of your fascination with motorcycles and enjoy the motorcycle life again.

Honda MBX50 (1982) Introduction

It was HONDA's second 2-stroke full size 50cc motorcycle. The water-cooled piston reed valve single cylinder engine had a rectifier that improved its usability at mid-low speed range.

On March 1, Honda Motor Co., Ltd. will launch the Honda MBX50, a road sport bike with a full-fledged character and quality that allows riders to enjoy a comfortable ride.

The MBX50 is designed with a long wheelbase (1255mm) to provide a comfortable riding position with less fatigue for long distance touring as well as urban riding.
The large 12-liter fuel tank, air-guided front fender, blinker and tail lamp integrated into the rear cowl further emphasize the bike's status as a full-fledged sport bike.

The engine is a newly designed liquid-cooled, two-stroke 49cc engine that employs Honda's unique technology such as a four-leaf reed valve with a rectifier plate to improve ease of use in the mid to low speed range. The large fuel tank makes long-distance touring enjoyable.

The body is made of a highly rigid semi-double-cradle frame using ultra-high tensile steel plates around the head pipe, and is designed to be lightweight for easy handling (dry weight 79 kg).

For the rear suspension, a pro-link system, which has already been used on high-end sports cars and is highly acclaimed, is adopted. The large-diameter 29φ front forks and lightweight aluminum boomerang-shaped ComStar wheels combine to provide excellent maneuverability and ride comfort.

The front brake uses Honda's unique dual-piston caliper for superior braking performance.

A 12-volt, 3-amp battery, large square headlamps (35 watts), and a transilluminated instrument panel with high visibility guidelines are also included.
