HONDA XL250S 1979 Introduction | Reliving the Old Days of Honda Collection Hall

Motorcycle & Industry

The Honda Collection Hall is a museum for four-wheeled and two-wheeled vehicles located in Twin Ring Motegi, Haga-gun, Tochigi Prefecture. It was opened in March 1998 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Honda Motor Company and to convey the spirit of Honda's origins to many visitors. In addition, the company is conducting a riding test to see if the motorcycle is actually performing well. A video of the test ride was taken to allow you to see many of the models in action. We've compiled those videos, broken down by age and displacement, into a feature. Your first motorcycle may be here. We invite you to relive the old days of your fascination with motorcycles and enjoy the motorcycle life again.

On June 28, Honda Motor Co., Ltd. released the Honda XL250S, a 250cc motorcycle that can comfortably travel on rough roads and off-road as well as on-road.

The Honda XL250S is equipped with a lightweight chassis, a four-stroke engine with easy-to-handle power characteristics, and large-diameter tires with a special block pattern. The XL250S is a sport bike with a wide range of use, from paved roads to rugged rough terrain.

Main Features
The newly designed four-stroke engine has two intake and two exhaust valves for high intake and exhaust efficiency. Although it is a single cylinder engine, it has two exhaust pipes. As a result, the engine has excellent cooling performance and a wide power band that enables long runs at low speeds, such as slower than walking, as well as high output at high speeds.

It also features a kick pedal linked decompression mechanism that allows starting with the same light pressure as a 125cc. This, combined with the reliable, maintenance-free CDI ignition system, makes for easy and reliable starting.

Transmission shaft
A two-shaft balancer mechanism, which also serves as the transmission shaft, has been adopted to make the engine compact and vibration-free. A center muffler mounted under the seat and a lightweight frame (119 kg dry weight) made for easy maneuverability. 23-inch large-diameter new pattern tires and a long cushion stroke of 204 m/m resulted in a high minimum ground clearance (255 m/m). These characteristics provide excellent off-road driving performance over rough terrain, and on-road riding comfort with minimal vibration.
