Track Limited! YAMAHA 2022 “YZF-R6 GYTR” is Now Available in North America!

Motorcycle & Industry

YAMAHA has announced the 2022 model of the YZF-R series in Europe and North America, including the World GP 60th Anniversary to commemorate the 60th anniversary of YAMAHA's participation in WGP.

However, just as motorcycle fans focused on the WGP 60th Anniversary Special Edition, YAMAHA quietly announced the YZF-R6, which was discontinued in 2020 and entered history, but this time it was wearing an FRP all-white fairing and the motorcycle name was changed to "YZF -R6 GYTR", the version for track riding only.

YZF-R6, the commercial version finally withdrawn from the European and North American markets

The YZF-R6 equipped with a water-cooled four-stroke parallel four-cylinder engine, due to environmental regulations and market demand, and other factors, was discontinued after the launch of the 2020 model last year and entered history. Later, only the track-specific RACE BASE version was launched in Europe.

This year (2021), Yamaha launched the "GYTR Kit" for the YZF-R6 in Europe, which is called the GYTR (Genuine Yamaha Technology Racing) Kit. The GYTR (Genuine Yamaha Technology Racing) kit is specially designed for Yamaha YZF-R6. The kit includes a fairing kit, Akrapovic track version exhaust, ECU, wiring harness kit, brake guards, etc. The purpose of the kit is to enhance the driving limit of YZF-R6 on the track as much as possible.

Speaking of this, I believe you already know that the 2022 YZF-R6 GYTR released by YAMAHA in North America this time is to directly install the GYTR kit on the version sold by YZF-R6, which also means that it has super high combat effectiveness. A racing motorcycle that can only be used in enclosed environments such as racetracks.

YZF-R6 GYTR includes the following parts:

・ FRP white body exterior kit
・ Racing cushion
・ GYTR-ECU
・ Harness kit
・ Full exhaust pipe for Akrapovic track
・ 520 chain & chainring
・ AIS plug set
・ Machined front brake lever bow guard
・ Shark fin drive gear plate cover
・ GYTR ABS simulator
・ GYTR racing fuel tank cover
・ GYTR brake cable set
・ Other special parts

The YZF-R6 GYTR will be sold in very limited quantities and will be available at Yamaha's North American dealerships from April 2022 for a suggested price of US$18,399 (approximately NT$515,000), an increase of US$6,200 compared to the 2020 model year market version of the YZF-R6.

Finally, although the commercially available YZF-R6 is currently out of production, considering that the KAWASAKI ZX-6R is still on the market, HONDA's CBR600RR has been revived, and the SUZUKI GSX-R600 is still alive in the North American market, it is possible that one day in the future we will see the rebirth of the YZF-R6 with a parallel four-cylinder engine.

The 2020 YZF-R6 (South African specification/Australian specification), which was introduced into Japan as a reverse-imported model, offers a powerful and agile ride with 118.4ps/14,500rpm and a lightweight of 190kg, and has attracted fans with a suggested price of ¥1,595,000 in Japan (about 410,000 NTD).
