Hello! This is Webike staff, Gin. I'm going to report my review of Honda's adventure style 150cc scooter, ADV150, which I actually rode around 30km commuting route one way.
I've been commuting to work by motorcycle on a Yamaha NMAX (2016) for about 30 km each way. The route is about 1/3 is a stop and go road with heavy traffic congestion and a lot of slip throughs, and 2/3 is the route on the fast flowing national highway, mainly Route 246. Here, the ADV150 is also traveling on the same route.
The distinctive adventure look not only looks great, it feels great to ride!
The feature of ADV150 is its adventure look design which is not like a scooter. The design concept is the same as Honda's city adventure model, X-ADV, which makes it stand out from other scooter models and makes it unique.
The riding position is much higher than PCX150 which has almost same frame and engine. Because the front part of the seat is narrowed down, the footing is a little bit higher than other scooter models. It is a little bit higher than other scooter models. You can get half of both feet.
The riding position is much more upright than the PCX, and when you put your hands on the pipe handlebars, you feel like you're sitting in the seat with good posture, and with the tapered handlebars and motorcycle-like cockpit, you don't feel like you're riding a scooter.
Honda's ADV150 is a 150cc scooter that debuted in 2020. Based on the overwhelmingly popular PCX150 (2018 model), it has been given an adventure-style appearance and a special suspension to approach new users.
The riding position for a 170cm tall rider is more waist high than the PCX, but the knee bend is gentle. The upper body is also upright, giving it the posture of an adventure model.
The PCX series is superior in terms of footing stability. Incidentally, the PCX had heel contact, so the PCX series is superior in terms of footing stability.
The ADV150's unmistakable scooter-like behavior makes it fun to ride
The main difference between the PCX and the PCX is the ride quality, thanks to a longer suspension stroke and a rear suspension with a reservoir tank, it feels like a sports motorcycle. It has a sport motorcycle-like ride. When the front brake is applied, the front suspension sinks, and when the accelerator is opened, the rear suspension retracts. The motorcycle-like movement almost makes you forget it's a scooter.
The 150cc engine has more power than the 125cc engine, even at high cruising speeds on main roads. The 150cc engine has plenty of power even on the main road with high cruising speed.
Another attraction of the 150cc model is that it can be used on expressways. I used the highway several times during the test ride and I realized the convenience of the ADV150 which is different from the moped. The engine of ADV150 is not good enough for cruising at 100km/h on highway, but it was no problem at all for cruising at 80-90km/h.
The engine is the same system as the 2018 and later PCX150, with the same maximum output of 15 PS. However, improvements to the intake and exhaust system have strengthened the torque in the low to mid RPM range. Handling on rough surfaces has been improved.
The rear suspension stroke is 120mm, which is 35mm longer than PCX150. The wheels are smaller diameter from 14 to 13 inches to reduce the deterioration of footing.
The front wheel is 14 inches same as PCX150 to ensure stability and the tire is 10mm wider to make it more powerful. The suspension stroke is 130mm to cope with rough road conditions.
The tapered pipe handlebars used on off-road models are adopted. The upright setting makes it feel like a standing posture is not impossible.
The screen is a two-stage adjustable type and can be changed in height by 71mm. This photo shows it in the lowered position, and the other photos show it in the raised position. The up position feels like the height of a standard scooter.
The conclusion is that 150cc is a better value than the 125cc class when it comes to convenience
The distinctive design gives it a presence that is not like a scooter and a ride like a motorcycle. It's a scooter, but it's not a scooter, and that's the ADV150's greatest appeal. In addition, the convenience of the 150cc scooter that can be ridden on highways is more attractive than the economic advantages of the 125cc scooter.
As with the PCX, there's storage space under the seat for a helmet and extra luggage, and there's also an inner box for charging, which is very useful.
After this test ride, I woke up to the convenience of 150cc scooter and the charm of ADV150 and sold my NMAX (125). I sold my NMAX (125) and bought a new used ADV150 which I found just right. I use it for my daily commuting and it is very active now.
The difference between optional insurance and family motorcycle insurance is only 10,000 yen per year. Even if I take into account the difference of automobile tax, I think it is cheap considering the convenience of riding on highway. The performance and design of ADV150 will make you feel good when you are touring and it will blend with your travel scenery. ADV150 is a multi-purpose motorcycle that covers from commuting to touring.
The meter, which is completely different from PCX150, is a full LCD type and has a rugged design like a wristwatch G-shock. The unique thing is the bar graph fuel consumption gauge in the lower right corner, which is displayed in real time.
Convenient features such as smart key and idling stop mechanism are same as PCX150.
The space under the seat is stopped to 27L against 28L of PCX150, 1L less. Depending on the product, 1 full face helmet + rain wear can be stored.
There is a small storage compartment on the left side of the front, and a built-in 12V power supply. A conversion adapter is required, but it can also charge a smartphone.
The full-LED headlights are the same as the PCX series, but with a completely new design.
The tail lights are also LED and are designed in the same "X" motif as the PCX.
This is the scene of delivery of ADV150 which I bought after test ride. I have been using 125cc scooter for commuting for a long time, but I decided to switch to 150cc because of its usability and the charm of ADV150.
