What Kind of Motorcycles Do You Recommend for Fast and Easy Highway Travel?

Motorcycle Reviews

List of recommended motorcycles for fast and easy highway travel.

Webike's "Search Bikes by Bike Life" is a website where you can find recommended motorcycles for different situations based on information from Webike users. In this issue, we'll introduce you to motorcycles recommended for "moving fast and easy on the expressway", along with the voices of actual users!

What is the best motorcycle to travel fast and easy on the highway?

If you are going on a long touring trip on your day off, you probably use the expressway almost all the time. Next year, the highway discount system for motorcycles with ETC will start. ETC machines are not cheap, but the cost is definitely worth it, so we recommend it.

There are many advantages to using the expressway. First of all, there is no stop-and-go like on ordinary roads. The cruising speed is also higher, so the level of fatigue is completely different. In addition, the fuel consumption also becomes good. If you include the expressway toll, the cost of travel will not be as high as on the way down, but you will still be happy that you can save money on gasoline because of the better fuel economy, and you can also make a small contribution to reducing CO2 emissions.

And as I mentioned earlier, less fatigue means lower accident rates. You'll be able to stay focused, so you'll be less likely to react late. If something happens on a motorcycle, damage to the human body is inevitable. If that happens, it's not just your family that will be inconvenienced. If you think of it as buying safety, paying the highway toll is not a waste.

Now, we have arranged all European motorcycles in this ranking. European motorcycles have outstanding high speed stability. The reason why is because the speed range is different from Japan. Especially in Germany, there is Autobahn which is unlimited speed. That is to say, more than one hundred and tens km. You have to guarantee that the motorcycle can ride safely for 2.5 hours. That is why high performance is inevitably required. When you drive a European motorcycle, you may get the impression that it is robust, but this is because of its background.

Based on the above, we have selected the following 4 units. Please refer to them.

First recommended motorcycle

R1250RT

Germany, the country of the autobahn, is a tourer that BMW is proud of. Both comfort and sport are at a high level because of the manufacturer.

Purpose of purchase, purpose of use, comparative modelsOnce you get into the new boxer engine, you'll be hooked.
Strengths/Satisfactory pointsIt is light and has excellent suspension tracking. The engine is very peppy and no complaints at all. The motorcycle is also very light due to the dimensions of the body.
Weaknesses and complaintsIf you are switching from a K1600GT, all the equipment you had before is now optional. The price is too high. Even the fog lights are optional and the headlight is not LED.
Advice to prospective buyers. You should drive one of these! I've driven horizontally opposed engines before and they are much better. I didn't want to drive the Adventure because there were too many of them.

Second recommended motorcycle

Multistrada 1200

The Multistrada is the perfect combination of Ducati design and sport with comfort. The Multistrada is the perfect combination of Ducati design, sport and comfort.

Purpose of purchase, purpose of use, comparative modelsFor touring.
Strengths/Satisfactory pointsI can enjoy the sporty ride that is typical of DUCATI while still being able to handle long touring. It has agile mobility that does not make you feel the size of the motorcycle.
Weaknesses and complaintsThe normal model I own has a low grade suspension, and the initial and damping adjustments are not very detailed. Especially around the rear. Even if you apply the initial, the rear is low (this seems to be a basic dimension), and when you want to drive a little sporty with luggage, you will get understeer. The effect of one click of the damping adjustment is difficult to understand, and as you adjust the damping adjustment, you will find that it will engage and disengage significantly at certain points. This may be the limit point of normal model.
The overall impression of the suspension is that it's more stability-oriented, but the previous water-cooled model had a sportier suspension like DUCATI. (The previous two air-cooled models were awesome!)
However, it is not a major complaint.
Advice to prospective buyers. If you are interested in one, I recommend you to test drive one. I am normal grade, but if you can afford it, I recommend S model. Electric suspension, TFT LCD and LED light are very attractive.
Fuel consumption is about 18km in long touring.
It's been about 5 years since I bought it and I haven't had any malfunctions or problems.

Third motorcycle recommendation

1290 SUPER ADVENTURE S

The top-end model of KTM's ADV. It's a high-powered ADV with first-class speed. On top of that, it is also very comfortable. You can enjoy sports without getting tired.

Purpose of purchase, purpose of use, comparative modelsI bought this motorcycle because I was looking for a touring motorcycle for long touring and I was interested in KTM. I avoided the megasport which has a strong forward lean.
Strengths/Satisfactory pointsIt's fast! Not only does it start, but if you turn it without worrying about vibration, it will accelerate all the way up to about 200 km/h.
It has a relaxed knee position, a hot engine, a controllable chassis with a (personally) futuristic design, and great packaging with advanced equipment that doesn't betray it.
It's interesting to be able to change the response, damping, preload, etc. with the flip of a switch.
(Of course it's rarely used, and I only used it the first time.)
The bright lights and cornering lights also make touring night travel spectacular.
It's easy to drive with a high line of sight and a light clutch.
I thought "Do I really need this?" until I used cruise control and hill hold control. But when I used them, I was very surprised at how convenient they were.
The optional heated seats are very comfortable and useful, but the seat height is 89cm.
It is equipped with an oil temperature gauge and maintains an oil temperature of about 100 degrees Celsius at 30 degrees Celsius.
It's about 75 degrees oil temp on the highway in the winter at about 5 degrees.
I bought it for its looks and I am very pleased with its touring performance, which is higher than I expected.
It's also good that the handguard sacrifices itself in a standing fight and the lever doesn't break or bend.
It may be an advantage that the flashy scratches are not bothered gradually because it is an off-road motorcycle.
Because of its rarity, if you pass by on this motorcycle, it's a sign of a very virtuous rider.
I also think it smells amazingly weird that he rides a big KTM.
Weaknesses and complaintsI think it's a good motorcycle.
I'm always in 5th gear for 100km/h because 6th gear is knocking unless I'm going over 110km/h.
My motorcycle gets about 16-17k miles. It's about L and for some reason the mileage doesn't change much on the highway.
If you drive at 100 km/h in 6th gear, the fuel consumption is 13 km/h./It dropped to about L.
I think the 6th gear is for cruising over 120km/h. I think there is almost no chance to use it in Japan.
Neutral was hard and wouldn't come out until about 10,000 miles.
Now at 15,000 miles, I can get neutral, but not a good touch in gear.
At first, I felt that there was a lot of vibration, but after riding for more than 3 years, I couldn't do without the vibration of this 75 degree V-twin, so I think the vibration is attractive if it suits your style.
The engine noise is loud and clattering.
It looks more like a Japanese motorcycle with a rocker arm type engine from the 80's.
In the three years I've had it, I've driven about 15,000 miles, had oil seepage, coolant seepage, unresponsive gauges, a mysterious catalyst warning light (checked at the dealership, no problems), engine won't start, and many other problems, but I think the engine and body are basically solid.
However, there are still an unbelievable number of failures and troubles compared to domestic products.
You also need to get along with your dealer.
This is a motorcycle that has limitations in terms of information and parts supply that can only be handled with a manual in hand.
Also, it's a small detail, but the stand is very upright, so you have to be careful when putting the motorcycle down.
It doesn't seem to break, but up until the first year or so after I took delivery and got used to it, because of the seat height, there were a few times when my right foot got caught in the rear seat when I got off the motorcycle and I almost rolled to the left around the stand. (I didn't mock it.)
I would have liked the stand to be a little more comfortable as the motorcycle is loaded with luggage and you get on and off like you're pulling your leg out.
Perhaps the biggest drawback is that the Super Adventure series is the only motorcycle I'd switch to, as it's the lightest and most powerful in the segment.
There is a place where it feels cheap for the price and it seems to be made roughly, so it is required to have a margin of maturity that does not make a fine point.
I'm sure it's an individual thing, but the optional stock panniers did let rainwater in.
Advice to prospective buyers. It is recommended to test drive at least two or three times at the dealer if possible.
When the oil temperature rises, it is very hard to put the motorcycle into neutral from 1st or 2nd gear.
but the gear change itself while driving is smooth.
I don't use the auto shifter because it makes a nice big noise from the transmission.
The auto shifter needs to be reset periodically by the dealer due to wear on the switch.
I test drove it 3 times at different dealers (all N was hard.) But it's very stressful to drive in the city when you can't find neutral.
Also, it's a big motorcycle and it's very hard to use in daily life, so if you are a big person and you drive 4 to 500km on the highway on weekends or long holidays, it's suitable for you.
It is not good to use it mainly for city driving because the roughness stands out.
It travels vividly on the highway and Hokkaido.
Also, you can talk to them anywhere because they stand out anyway.
As of October 2021, a new model is available, but if you're looking for a comfortable touring motorcycle, this model may be affordable and a good target.
Because it is a minor foreign motorcycle that chooses a rider though it is high performance, I think that there is no trade-in, and it is necessary to be prepared to ride down.
So before you buy, you should carefully assess whether it is suitable for you.
As for the tires, you'll appreciate the motorcycle's electronic control more if you use adventure road tires.
When I use off-road tires, my hands become numb from the vibrations, and I lost the stability of cornering that I had before, so I did not feel any good points.
If it doesn't fit, I think I'll let it go soon, even at a discount.
It is also suitable for bonsai because there are many parts abroad.
Secretly, as of October 2021, it's the world's largest displacement big-off (adventure?). I think it will be the
Please watch the promotional video on the official site.
You will want to ride it.
Used motorcycles that are out of warranty have a large element of gamble, but even considering this, they are unique and show their own world view.

Fourth recommended motorcycle

Touring Family/Harley-Davidson

The Harley Touring family is big, heavy and lumpy, but once you get it on the highway, it's as comfortable and fast as a jumbo airliner.

Purpose of purchase, purpose of use, comparative modelsI was going to buy Breckout, but fell in love with it at first sight at Mr. High Side.
I bought it on impulse before I got my license.
Strengths/Satisfactory pointsAlmost everything.
Weaknesses and complaintsThe Bluetooth connection is just unstable at times. (-2 points)
Advice to prospective buyers.I got a big license after I bought it.
I think the Milwaukee Eight is easy to ride even if you're a big or Harley newbie.
It's heavy, but I've ridden drifters before, and I was prepared for it to be heavy, so it's not as heavy as I thought it would be!
Use: Everything from commuting
