Closer to a Rally Racing Setting? YAMAHA “Tenere700 Raid” Patent Revealed

Motorcycle & Industry

Recently Yamaha's latest patent was released, and it is a multi-purpose cross-country model that "looks like" the Tenere 700, but of course the case is not that simple! The new patented model is even bigger than the Tenere700!

In recent years, Yamaha has launched an off-road-oriented ADV model Tenere700 built with a CP2 engine, which has achieved great success in the European and North American markets. Before and after the Milan Auto Show last year, Yamaha revealed the Tenere700 Raid, a more advanced and more powerful off-road performance, with a motorcycle format comparable to a Rally racing motorcycle.

This prototype Tenere700 Raid built by Yamaha's racing department GYTR is significantly different from the commercial version of the Tenere700. For example, the fuel supply computer, intake and exhaust, cooling system and clutch have been modified, and the power is not comparable to the standard version. In addition, the motorcycle has been replaced with a higher-level suspension system, and has a super-long suspension stroke of 270mm in the front and 280mm in the rear.

In addition, from the brakes, switches, instruments to exhaust pipes, fuel tanks, etc., there is no original product, and the Tenere700 Raid can almost be said to be a Rally race motorcycle.

And what does the Tenere700 Raid have to do with the patent image disclosed this time? It has a lot to do with it! Comparing the pictures of the 3D model with the current Tenere700, it can be seen that the design of the front aerodynamic kit and the size of the fuel tank is completely different, and the volume is therefore larger and stronger!

In addition to being wider, the huge fuel tank almost extends down to the crankcase of the engine, and the overall momentum is completely different from the Tenere700.

After checking the two pictures, it can be seen that the new model has deliberately lowered the height of the fuel tank to allow the seat to extend flatter towards the front of the motorcycle, allowing the rider to stand up and ride with enough room to move the body, a change made in response to high-end Enduro riders.

There may be such a change because the Tenere700's fuel tank is only 16L. Compared with the 20 and 25L fuel tanks of various flagship ADVs, 16L is indeed a little smaller. Although we don't know what the new fuel tank capacity is, this new dual fuel tank must have a strength of more than 20L, and the design has a rally and endurance racing atmosphere.

Other than that, the newly revealed model does not seem to be much different from the current version in other parts. After all, if it is a commercial model, it is unlikely to be equipped with those racing parts of the Tenere700 Raid prototype.

From this point of view, Yamaha may launch a Tenere 700 with a larger fuel tank and a new air power kit version in the future. We'll have to wait and see if it will replace the current model or be split into two versions like the Honda Africa Twin we recently test drove.
