Kawasaki Vulcan S Review

From the Webike Community's My Bike, the "Owner Review Summary" introduces various motorcycles based on the voices of owners who actually ride or have ridden them. In this issue, we bring you the real owner's voice on the "Vulcan S"!

This is what Vulcan S is!

With the recent success of the Rebel 250, I believe that motorcycles with good foot grounding have been reevaluated. This is where the Vulcan S deserves your attention.

The Vulcan S looks like a low-and-long cruiser, but what it is is not a cruiser. It should be called a sports model. First of all, it has a liquid-cooled, parallel two-cylinder DOHC engine, rather than the standard V-twin of cruisers. This engine is based on the one used in the Ninja 650 and other models. In other words, it is a sports engine that can be used at low rpm as well as at high rpm.

In addition, the driving is nimble itself. It has acceleration and deceleration that are unbelievable for a cruiser, and cornering is enjoyable as well. The lightweight body and good footing make it easy to fall over. In fact, it should be very useful for urban driving. The most interesting point, however, is the use of a variable position. The position of the footpegs, handlebars, and seat can be adjusted as an option.

Let's take a look at what Webike users have to say. Some of them say that the riding posture is good and easy. Some said they could ride long distances with a pillion without getting tired. The engine has a cruiser-like pulse at low speeds and a sportbike-like acceleration feel at high rpm.

On the other hand, negative opinions mention the lack of customized parts. Some users say they ordered directly from the U.S. Some users also said that the wind resistance was low. It seems that a little ingenuity is needed when touring on highways.

Today, young people are showing a renewed interest in motorcycles, and I believe that they are looking for individuality rather than driving performance. Looking at current hit models, speed seems to be secondary. I think the Vulcan S is honestly not well recognized. However, there is no doubt that it is a fairly hole-in-the-wall motorcycle with contradictory characteristics: comfort not found in sports motorcycles and driving performance not found in cruisers. It is a motorcycle that deserves more attention.

Brief summary of Vulcan S

Advantage

- Easy to drive in a comfortable riding posture and tension-free
- Easy to change direction and maneuver because it arrives with a firm footing
- No difficulty in driving slowly and light on the mountain passes.
- Fuel consumption is about 27 km/L

Disadvantage

- It doesn't have the throbbing of a V-twin engine.
- Few aftermarket parts
- Not windproof enough to almost take your head off at 90km/h

Foot grounding

Nearly 100% of riders in the 166-170 cm height range report that the Vulcan S has a "firm or excellent" footing.

Vulcan S Owner's Voice

Mr. NOB

Motive for purchase, intended use, and comparative modelsI was attracted by its cool appearance. Then I decided on the compactness and size of the 650cc. I thought it had good footing and was not too big, so it would not be cumbersome to ride around town.
Pros/Satisfactory pointsI think the flowing body form is cool. The riding posture is comfortable, and you can drive it gently and without tension. It is not absolutely fast, but it has enough performance for touring while looking around the scenery.
Disadvantages and dissatisfactionsYou cannot experience the pulse feeling of an air-cooled V-twin engine. The sound is also quiet, so we feel it is weak as a production. Also, there are not enough aftermarket parts to choose from. There is no fun in wondering which parts to choose.

Mr. KAGEROU

Motive for purchase, intended use, and comparative modelsThe price happened to be lower.
Pros/Satisfactory pointsGood style. Good position to throw out the legs. Smooth acceleration even from low speeds. You'll never come across exactly the same model.
Disadvantages and dissatisfactionsCargo cannot be loaded with anything in the normal way. It is said to have a surprisingly good bank angle, but be careful because it steps as soon as it feels like it!
Advice for prospective buyersIt is often thought of as American, but actually, it is not. If you find this style beautiful, I would recommend this machine. It is a motorcycle that feels very natural and comfortable to ride, not for its speed or cornering, but for its carefree flow.

Mr. Node

Motive for purchase, intended use, and comparative modelsRelaxation
Pros/Satisfactory pointsOutstanding stability
The rear suspension is an offset laydown rear suspension, which is not a cruiser by any means.
Thanks to this, the motorcycle performs in a racy manner that is hard to believe that it is American.
No one else is in the same boat.
Disadvantages and dissatisfactionssuper minor
Few custom parts
Even a Kawasaki rider said to me, "I thought you were putting a Kawasaki logo on it..."
Advice for prospective buyersIf you are interested in cruisers, I suggest you take a look.
American riders seem to find the motorcycle quite shocking.
