The highly anticipated new model "DAX 125," the world's first public appearance of an actual model, was finally unveiled at the Osaka Motorcycle Show. Like the MONKEY 125, the DAX 125 has a larger 125cc silhouette, and is a model that can be enjoyed in a different way from its predecessor, the DAX 125, which boasted of its popularity as a rager motorcycle!

DAX 125

The previous generation DAX started out with the concept of "carrying a passenger in the motorcycle and enjoying leisure activities on the road". However, with the shift to 125cc, the concept was changed to "a funky model for city commuting and touring". This change in concept is similar to that of the MONKEY 125, but the 4-speed rotary gear, centrifugal clutch, and styling are clearly differentiated. The rotary gear is a type of gear that goes N ⇒ 1 ⇒ 2 ⇒ 3 ⇒ 4, familiar from the Super Cub. When the Super Cub first appeared, it was said that "riding in leather shoes would not damage your shoes" because it could be operated simply by stepping on the wheel. Even today, the advantage of intuitive operation and control is significant. The authentic inverted fork and full-LED electrical system also give it a high-class feel, making this a model that enhances the pleasure of owning a motorcycle.

In addition, the overall larger size will be of great benefit to maneuverability. The double seat allows the pleasure of pillion riding, but the wide handlebars, wide 12-inch tires, and longer wheelbase also seem to provide greater stability when riding, and fatigue when touring long distances will be quite different from the previous generation DAX. The tank capacity is slightly smaller, 3.8 liters for the DAX 125 compared to 5.6 liters for the MONKEY 125, but considering that the MONKEY 125 and SUPER CUB C125 with the same type of engine have a remarkably good fuel economy of 71.0 km/L ~ 69.0 km/L, the DAX 125 also has no worries for about 200 km. I can't wait to see the DAX 125, reborn as such a full-size 125cc model, on the streets!

Checking the overall unit

The T-shaped steel press frame common to the DAX series is retained. Although there must have been various restrictions in the modernization process, such as electronic control and injection, it is wonderful that the style has not been lost!

On the left side is a plated cover that was not present on the previous model.

The front and rear wheels are 12 inches in diameter, the same as those of the MONKEY 125, but with on-road tires to differentiate the atmosphere. The wheels are also a different type of cast specification from the MONKEY.

The MONKEY 125 had a single seat, but the DAX 125 has a double seat. The expectation for pillion riding is perfect.

Checking details

Lights are ring-type full LEDs, evolving into a design typical of Honda in recent years.

The blinkers are simple with clear lenses. So-called "4 Mini" models such as DAX, MONKEY, and BENLY are characterized by the integration of the tail lamp and blinker bracket, and this is still the case on the DAX 125!

The engine is almost identical in appearance to the MONKEY and GROM. According to the European press release, it is a 4-speed rotary gear with an output of 9.4 PS at 7,000 rpm.

The exhaust system follows the retro-pop design of the old DAX. This is an Up type exhaust system with chromium cover with a simple butcher hole.

The meter is a single-lens digital LCD. Fuel and speed gauges are visible, but there is no tachometer. The design is the same as that of the MONKEY 125.

The handlebars are upright pipe handlebars, wide and comfortable like a leisure motorcycle. However, it does not have the "folding" function that was a feature of the old DAX.

The double seat opens to reveal a fuel tank. The tank inside the frame has a capacity of 3.8 liters, which may seem a little small, but considering that the old DAX had a capacity of 2.5 liters, is this a reasonable evolution?

A variety of colors are available in red and gray

Color variations include red and modern gray, in keeping with the previous generation DAX 50. You can choose between traditional and modern.

The gray color, also used in the SUPER CUB C125, has a unique color with a pearl finish. It is a somewhat nostalgic yet novel shade.

Check the sizing!

The model is 170 cm tall and weighs 65 kg, which may seem "big" when you see the previous generation DAX, but in fact, as you can see, no worries at all about foot grounding.

Both feet landed comfortably on the ground. The height of the handlebar is also in a natural and comfortable position.

The steel pressed frame is very compact in width. The width of the motorcycle affects the foot grounding more than the seat height, but the DAX 125 is still worry-free.

For a petite woman, the suspension sinks and the foot grounding is only "heel-lifting".

In pillion, which is a concern, the wide double seat allows two people to ride together without being cramped. It is also equipped with grab bars for the passenger.
