Kawasaki Z1 Custom by PMC
The 2022 Tokyo Motorcycle Show has just come to a close, Webike went to the show and is here to introduce you to a custom model "PMC's Kawasaki Z1 Cafe Style".
The Z1 uses superior performance parts, and this specially built machine can handle everything from the street to winding roads. While the frame is not reinforced, the Z1 is designed to also perform well on the track.
We have also released an article on PMC Z1B to our "JCC" series, but those who read it may find that one customized a bit conservative, so let's change the flavor with this cafe model.
Engine
A full engine overhaul job with a PMC rebuilt clutch housing. This Z1 has been big bored to 930cc. PMC used a replacement piston kit with an emphasis on practicality and little need for an extreme carburetor reset.
The compression ratio is designed to be 8.5:1 for the Z1, the same as the catalog specifications. The stock engine has been fine-tuned while maintaining its original characteristics.
Intake & Exhaust
A high performance exhaust with a megaphone tail and a second combined exhaust reminiscent of an 80's superbike.
The Φ120mm megaphone with a tail cut to resemble a gun barrel for a powerful look.
The carburetor is a racing-spec CR31 machined from aluminum. It has received overwhelming support for its excellent maintainability and durability, not to mention its potential for rapid acceleration work and increased engine output.
Chassis
PMC sand blasted the full frame and painted it using a urethane curing oven.
The Laydown Kit also equipped to maximize the dynamic performance of the suspension.
The KYB36KZ is based on a special fork used on Superbikes in the 70s, stiffer but with less extra weight, and the inner tube and outer case are equipped with sliding metal to reduce friction.
This YSS rear shock is equipped with 2 high speed/low speed compression damping force system, 1 rebound damping force system, spring preload and ride height adjustment. The large capacity reserve tank prevents cavitation and increases the oil capacity for better heat dissipation.
A round iron swingarm racing type equipped with stabilizer for much improved rigidity and stability.
For the wheels, a novel and nostalgic cross-sectional spoke design is used.
The wheels on this Z1 are the special painted version (painted by Rustic). The PMC logo can be seen on.
Well, the handlebar section is a little less what I expected. Maybe I prefer the clip-ons handlebars of a cafe style.
This stainless steel handlebar has a polished finish with a mirror effect. The wide design provides the best position for vehicles over 750cc.
Equipped with PMC billet bushings. The position of the step bar is shifted back approximately 135 mm and up 65 mm from the center of the stock step rubber upper surface.
Body
This is high quality synthetic leather specifically designed for motorcycle seats for durability and weather resistance, and the seat base is made of steel, similar to the original.
The entire bike is painted with the patterns and materials designed specifically for this motorcycle.
Although this is a cafe style Z1, we have to admit that there are many representative elements of Asia that have been blended into the making of this motorcycle. "Dragons", "gold", etc. (Fun fact: the golden parts are actually made of real gold, so you can imagine how expensive this custom paint is!)
The sensation of the actual vehicle was stronger than the photos, and I can say that this Z1 was the one that impressed me the most in the PMC booth that day.
Kawasaki Z2 Type Tail Lamp equipped.
