The Colleda Scrambler Style Gives the Feeling of an Old Bike Even Though It’s Not That Old

Colleda Scrambler (60cc)
Owner: Dog Box

From among MY BIKES posted in the Webike community, here is "Dog Box"'s current bike, the Colleda Scrambler.

This is it! The name of the Suzuki "Colleda" is rumored to be derived from the fact that it is chosen as a Convenient! The first full-fledged Suzuki motorcycle, the "Colleda," was launched in 1955, and the 2ST sports model, the "Colleda ST," became very popular. As a racer, Suzuki won the 2nd Fuji Race in 1954 with the "Colleda CO". The "Colleda" also participated in the Asama Volcano Race, where Japanese manufacturers of the time competed for supremacy.

The Colleda name was eventually upgraded to 250cc. In response to the explosive demand for motorcycles during the period of rapid economic growth, the Colleda series continued to sell new models until 1965. However, after that time, when the "sport bike" category was fully established, the Colleda gave way to the march of the "Sport" series and the "GT" series. However, its structure was carried over to the business model "K" series.

The Colleda was suddenly resurrected in 1996! And with a lineup of two models, the "Colleda SPORT" and the "Colleda SCRAMBLER," it was designed with a passionate 60's atmosphere! In the mid 90's, classic manual transmission mopeds such as the "Benry 50S" from Honda and the "YB-1" from Yamaha were being lined up one after another. This was just as the classic naked mopeds were being reevaluated with the introduction of the Zephyr, and the trend was sweeping through the moped class as well. The revived Colleda was equipped with a two-stroke engine based on the K50, and chrome parts were placed in various places. The seat is a classic with rivets! However, the "Benly" and "YB" were overwhelmingly seen on the streets, and unfortunately, it did not seem to become a mainstream model.

Dog Box's Colleda is a scrambler. It is an off-road oriented model with an up-muffler, fork boots, and a tank pad. This is "Dog Box" further customized the bike by increasing the displacement to 60cc and installing a yellow headlight with a guard. However, the prototype is still there, and it retains the lovely silhouette that is typical of the Colleda Scrambler. It will be very difficult to find a new 2-stroke engine scrambler moped in the future, so I am sure it will become very valuable in the future!

Suzuki's first real 2-wheeled vehicle, the "Colleda," the first Japanese motorcycle equipped with a speedometer! The first step in Suzuki's motorcycle development history.

This is Corlleda Sports by Rengu san. Equipped with fork covers, low pipe handlebars, and a straight muffler, this model has a road sport feel. The stylish small blinkers are genuine. For those who are not satisfied with "ordinary scooters," there are still used models available!

From MY Bike Comments
Motivation for buying
My wife and I had promised to sell our KS-II and CB1100 and buy a new Harley Sportster, but right after we bought the Harley, I had a clunker loss and secretly searched on the Internet for a bike that I could comfortably ride on a rainy day, or some other reason.
Anyway, I bought a used "Colleda Scrambler Bore Up 60cc" because it was a "2-stroke" and "over 50cc" bike that I could ride at "full throttle".
Advantages
This is a used Colleda Scrambler that has been bored up to 60cc. Immediately after I bought it, I replaced the speedometer with a used one from another motorcycle (a Mametan), it shows up to 90km/h. The warning light is gone and the motorcycle performs easy because it has yellow plates. The warning lights are gone, and since I have a yellow license plate, I can drive comfortably with the flow of the vehicles. So far it runs well, only running out of gas once. The sound is a little too quiet for a 2-stroke. The outside is retro and fun to look at. The factory helmet holder next to the throttle is also attractive. It is amazing that you can go all the way with just one key (very different from a sportster). It is almost no white smoke.
Disadvantage
Fuel economy is not good. TThere are reviews that the moped Koretta Scrambler 50 has good fuel economy, but perhaps because it runs at full throttle (60~70 km/h), it is only a little better than the Harley, at about 25 km/l. The inside of the muffler seems to get clogged often, so I was looking around for a spare muffler, but I was surprised to find it was already out of stock and priced at over 30,000 yen at Monotaro. (Of course, I didn't buy it.) Since I don't have a genuine carrier, I am in trouble.
Advice for prospective buyers
If you are looking for a maniacal bike that no one else is riding, this is perfect for you. The KS-II was a piece of junk and I enjoyed tinkering with it, but the Colleda is so good that there is little to tinker with. I enjoyed tinkering with the KS-II because it was quite a piece of junk, but the Colleda is so good that there is almost nothing to tinker with.
