Yamaha Motor Co. has announced the release of the 2022 model year XSR900 ABS. The release date from last year is June 30 and the price is around 9,527 USD (including tax). The design of the motorcycle was announced sometime in 2021, with a pre-release in Europe. The XSR900 has a strong presence as the first of the neo-classic sports models, but with this model change, the engine displacement has been increased, driver-assist technology has been introduced, and the exterior has undergone major changes. In addition to a design modeled after the racing machines of the 1980s, the new blue and yellow "blue metallic" color is reminiscent of the "Gauloises colors" of yesteryear.

1) New style reflecting Yamaha's racing heritage
The design is not a retro design, but a reimagined fusion of the latest sports model technology. The design also takes into account foot and knee grip fit for an "at one with the rider" riding experience.
2) New engine with increased displacement (from 845 cm3 to 888 cm3)
Displacement is increased from the previous model. It is equipped with the CP3 (Crossplane Concept 3-cylinder) engine, which has gone from 845 cm3 to 888 cm3.Most of the major parts have been newly designed to reduce weight. In addition, an assist and slipper clutch is mounted, and the transmission, which is geared to high gearing in the first and second gears, has been optimized to provide excellent ride quality.
3) Lightweight new frame and lightweight wheels using the latest casting technology
A new frame with a minimum wall thickness of 1.7 mm is adopted using the latest manufacturing technology. Lateral rigidity has been increased by 50% compared to the conventional frame, resulting in improved straight-line stability. Lightweight wheels are made with Yamaha's original "SPINFORGED WHEEL" wheels, which are cast but have strength and toughness comparable to those of forged wheels. This lightweight design contributes to reductions in unsprung weight and moment of inertia.
4) Various controls to support driving operations by utilizing "IMU (Inertial Measurement Unit)
By reviewing the sensor configuration of the "IMU," which has been proven in the 2015 and later YZF-R1 models, a 50% reduction in size was achieved. The ECU, which receives information from the IMU and feeds it back to the vehicle, incorporates a traction control system, a slide control system, and a lift control system. A quick shifter is also incorporated.
5) New round LED headlamps and full-color TFT meters
The newly developed LED headlamps are thin and designed to blend in with the motorcycle body design. The 3.5-inch full-color TFT meter is equipped with a digital bar tachometer that changes color according to RPM, fuel gauge, average fuel consumption, water temperature gauge, outside air temperature gauge, shift indicator (color reversal in the gear used display area), and ETC indicator display function.
