Conquer the highest point in Khao Yai National Park First time in ASEAN Continuing the development approach meets the needs of consumers.
Yamaha Motor Co., Ltd. (Japan) continues to produce and develop the electric motorcycle "Yamaha E01" at the Tokyo Motor Show 2019 and has begun to test the actual use of POC (Proof of Concept) within Japan. Before forwarding the performance test plan "Yamaha E01" to Thailand for the first time including Indonesia, Malaysia, Taiwan, and Europe. To develop and expand the market in various regions.
Mr. Pongsatorn Euamongkolchai, Executive Vice President of Thai Yamaha Motor Company Limited, said about “Yamaha E01” that “Yamaha Motor is aware of the importance of global warming. And the wasteful use of fuel creates a greenhouse effect to affect various up in our world. Yamaha aims to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions by 16% by 2020, and by 2050, aims to reduce by up to 90%. It will reduce the product's carbon footprint. In the long term, Yamaha will promote the use of small vehicles including developing existing products to use electric power with EV batteries, both marine products, and motorcycles. Invented and developed renewable energy technologies which are environmentally friendly and developed technology to improve people's quality of life. From the beginning, a housewife's motorcycle is equipped with an electric motor system before it developed. The first electric scooter was in 1991, or 31 years earlier, than many models.
And the latest with "Yamaha E01", a 125 cc electric motorcycle that Thai Yamaha Motor Company Limited has revealed to the Thai people for the first time with driving performance equivalent to a motorcycle at the Bangkok International Motor Show 43 years ago and received a very good response from the participants in the event. At the same time, Yamaha Motor Japan The Global Press Conference YAMAHA E01 was also held to invite media from Japan, Indonesia, Malaysia, Taiwan, and Thailand to participate in meetings to get better product information.
Which has made a POC (Proof of concept) developed for testing and analyzing usage in different ways and to comply with the Carbon Neutrality Strategic Plan to reduce carbon dioxide emissions or greenhouse gases to zero which consists of 3 topics:
- To meet the needs of users of the 125 cc class, both near and long distances with an electric motorcycle
- Study and understand the suitability of the functionality to meet the needs of customers.
- Infrastructure knowledge collection in order to meet and develop the use of electric motorcycles in the future and in order to initiate the use of electric motorcycles as a full system both in hardware and software.
For the purpose of the E01 POC activity in Thailand, that is, to create a Yamaha EV brand in Thailand. Understand the needs of customers in Thailand and enhance the image with creativity including the special presentation of electric motorcycles from Yamaha through the E01 POC activity to take data from the test ride. Let's develop and expand further in the future.
In May last year, Thai Yamaha Motor Co., Ltd. began testing "Yamaha E01" in a practical form 2 times in Chiang Mai and Phuket. On the route tested through the steepness of the northern terrain, the mountains are at a slope of 12-15 degrees and the highest slope in Thailand at 19 degrees at Patong District, Phuket Province, where "Yamaha E01” shows good performance on steep slopes, from the test by driving alone and with passengers along with doing the Stop and Go test, park, and ride. During the steep slopes, "Yamaha E01" still responds well to use. Including continuous long-distance driving tests with Power Mode that draws out the maximum power of the electric motor for continuous use. The battery system of the “Yamaha E01” can still cool the heat very well. does not result in overheating and cutting off the power transmission to the drive system into Safe Mode as well. In addition, the driving test in the rain continued to travel smoothly.
With various highlights of the "Yamaha E01" that is comfortable and has a body size equivalent to a motorcycle class 125 cc (according to the Yamaha NMAX 125 in Europe), the sitting position is comfortable, with a length of 1,930 millimeters. There is storage under the seat, a capacity of 23 liters, can store a helmet, and a seat height of 755 mm, allowing the rider to easily get up and down and feet reach the ground confidently. Suitable for everyday use, able to drive at a speed of 100 kilometers per hour, at a distance of 100 kilometers, the ride is smooth as a normal motorcycle. Use electronic control system by Vehicle Control Unit, Battery Management System, Motor Control Unit with Regenerative Brake system that simulates the feeling of Engine Brake to reduce speed smoothly. It has an anti-skid Traction Control System and can also collect POC test data via E-sim mobile phone network and has built-in GPS. It will be forwarded to a web server for further analysis and development of future EVs.
“Yamaha E01” uses a large 4.9 kWh lithium-ion battery, providing a maximum power of 8.1 kWh at 5,000 revs and a maximum torque of 30.2 Nm at 1,950 revs. It can travel up to 130 km per charge. Meets WMTC Class 1 standards in Europe and can choose to charge 3 types of batteries for user convenience and support driving in all situations.
1. Fast charger – suitable for installation by rental motorcycle dealers, can charge from 0% to 90% in 1 hour.
2. Regular charger – suitable for home installations, can charge from 0% to 100% in 5 hours at 200V (compatible with 200–240V outlets in different countries).
3. Portable charger - easy to carry as it fits in the under-seat storage compartment. It can be charged from 0% to 100% in 14 hours at 100V (200–240V in different countries).
4. In addition, the electric motor system of “Yamaha E01” was developed and manufactured under the exclusive license of Yamaha for high performance and quality including a specially designed frame as well as bringing technology from the development of sport motorcycles to use.
“Yamaha E01” comes with 3 driving modes to suit the operating environment. and different driving lifestyles
- PWR (Power Mode): Maximum power 1kW at 5000rpm, maximum torque 30.2Nm at 1950 rpm, and a top speed of 100 km/h. For driving that draws out the maximum power of the motor. Suitable for uphill riding and acceleration, etc.
- STD (Standard Mode): Maximum power 1kW at 5000rpm, maximum torque 24.5Nm at 1,500 rpm, and a top speed of 100 km/h. Suitable for general driving that is used most often in the speed range of 30-80 km / h.
- ECO (Eco Mode): 4kW peak power at 4,500rpm, peak torque 21.4Nm at 1,500rpm, enabling energy efficiency and longer travel distances to limit battery consumption and limit the maximum speed is about 60 km/h.
And in this test, Thai Yamaha Motor Company Limited invited more than 60 leading media outlets in Thailand to come to test and experience the performance of the electric motorcycle "Yamaha E01" at Khao Yai National Park, Nakhon Ratchasima Province on condition driving paths on both slopes and steep slopes to allow the opportunity to truly experience the performance of the electric motorcycle "Yamaha E01".
For those who are interested in testing the electric motorcycle "Yamaha E01" by August. Yamaha will open registration for a test ride at the Yamaha Riders' Club, Kaset Nawamin branch.
