Japanese Custom Culture

SD-BROS MOTORCYCLE's GSX1100S KATANA

SD-BROS in Aichi, Japan, whose main business is coating motorcycles with the coating agent CR-1. This Suzuki GSX1100S Katana is the property of a customer who has a long relationship with SD-BROS.

According to Mr. Shudo, who is working at SD-BROS, the owner originally had another vehicle and was fully modifying it, but he changed his mind and wanted to ride on the Katana. The owner bought Final Edition, but Mr. Shudo recommended him to ride it without custom for the first 2 years, to make him understand the difference before and after he actually customize. The project started after that 2 years. When Mr. Shudo looked at the frame, the back of the frame was too rusty, and the engine was bad as well. Mr. Shudo thought to do something to the Katana so that it will last a lifetime. He upgraded the engine while keeping the Katana's originality. The concept was to improve the overall balance of the machine, not to have outstanding performance only in one area. The rusty frame was cleaned up and treated with Carbon Dry Pro-Tech (carbon laminated to the surface), and increased the displacement to 1135cc. In addition, Yoshimura ST-1 camshaft was installed with a TSS slipper clutch.

Handle

The steering stem is a one-off for this bike with a 37mm fork offset (stock one is 50mm), and the top bridge has been reupholstered with a Final Edition's plate. The handlebars are Sansei Racing's clip-on handle, and the front master and the clutch holder / lever are Gale Speed's products. The gauges are made by Motogadget, with an analog tachometer on the outside and a multi-function digital gauge on the bottom.

Bodyworks

The seat is To's Custom Supreme's product. The upper cowl and tail cowl are made of carbon produced by Shabondama, and the tank made by Beater is made of aluminum.

Chassis

The rearset is the modified version of ZRX1200's rearset made by Agras. You can also see the Carbon Dry Protec process that wraps dry carbon around the frame surface.

The front fork is Hyper Pro Φ43mm, and the six-spoke wheels are PMC Sword Matrix in 3.00-18/4.50-18 sizes front and rear.

The swingarm made by Wheelie is pentagonal with a triple squared cross-section, and the rear suspension is Hyper Pro in a special order color. Brake discs are Sunstar, Φ310mm at the front and Φ220mm at the rear.

Engine

The engine is 1135cc with Yoshimura Φ74mm pistons, Yoshimura ST-1 cams, Yoshimura DID cam chain, and a TSS slipper clutch. The frame is reinforced in three places: the laydown area, the bar that goes under the seat on both sides, and the bar on the pivot (the upper part of the pivot is a stock final edition).

Intake & Exhaust

The carburetor is a TMR Φ40mm-MJN dual stack, and the exhaust system is a combination of TNK Engineering exhaust pipes + Maverick silencers. The Ignition is controlled by a Uotani SP-2.
