In the recent 43rd edition of the "Coca-Cola" Suzuka 8 Hours Endurance Road Race, the BMW Motorrad World Endurance Team retired mid-race, changing its status from the hero team of the previous Spa 24-Hour EWC race to a zero-point team.
The Belgian team came to Japan aiming for even greater heights in the EWC after winning the Spa 24-Hour EWC race held in the BMW team's hometown in June. However, after four hours, halfway through the race, the BMW M1000RR ridden by Markus Reiterberger, Ilja Michalczyk, and Jérémy Guarnoni experienced engine cooling problems, and Ilja returned the machine to the pits, but it was deemed impossible to continue the race.
