Is This Next for Dax? | Paris-Dakar Custom of Grom and Monkey 125 is Full of Adventure

Motorcycle & Industry

The 3rd installment of our self-published project to introduce Honda brands that may be the next candidate for the Daks 125 focuses on the XL125R Paris-Dakar.

Honda's off-road has developed from CL to SL to XL, and we are informed that the CL250 will be back first in 2023.
And in my last article, I expected the SL to return, and now I would like to introduce a custom vehicle that makes you expect the XL125 Paris-Dakar to be the next one. It's very cool and there is a genuine manufacturer's version.

Paris-Dakar exterior kit for the new JC92 Grom is now on release

Yokohama-based Be's Garage (090-3240-4117) has developed a Paris-Dakar-inspired exterior kit that can be bolted onto the JC92 Grom. The kit consists of a tank cover, headlight cowl, side covers, front fender, and tank cap cover, and is priced at (approx.) 995 USD.

The basic color is a black gel coat, but in response to popular demand, a kit painted in the tricolor of the XL125/250R Paris-Dakar image is now available for (approx.) 1755 USD. By adding a special rear carrier (approx. 155 USD) and an under guard, a Grom Paris-Dakar model of the same quality as the demo vehicle shown in the photo is completed.

Furthermore, Be's Garage Yuasa's vehicle is equipped with Maxxis 12-inch block tires, which he says are sufficient for touring on forest roads after this level of customization. Above all, this customization is full of romance and makes one want to go on a trip in the image of the Paris-Dakar.

The 2021 JC92 Grom has been transformed to Paris-Dakar specifications. The tank holds 6 liters even with STD, and since the motorcycle travels more than 300 km on a full tank, a cover is used instead of a big tank.

Here is the original 1983 XL125R Paris-Dakar. The XL250R Paris-Dakar was released earlier in 1982, but the 125 was used as the original model to match the displacement. Even the 125 has a 17-liter tank capacity.

The owner simply buys a genuine Honda wing sticker and applies it himself. Because the logo under it is GORM DAKARA = Grom. That means?

The headlight cowl is an ideal product that makes the round eyes look like the square lights of the Grom.
The over fenders are also reproduced exactly as they would be on a Paris-Dakar spec car.

The tank cover has a large overhang, giving it a big tank feel. The bolt garnish on the cover is also utilized, and the Grom-like appearance is retained.

The tank cap cover is molded from an XL250R tank cap and is fixed with magnets. The breather hose does not draw in the air but prevents it from falling off.

The under guard is essential for horizontal engines where the exhaust pipe operates under the engine. It is made of aluminum and designed with a two-position mounting position.

At Moto Rider Festa Hakone in September, examples of Marlboro and Repsol colors were also displayed.
It is fun to finish in the color of your choice!

Monkey 125-based Paris-Dakar specs are also cool.

Another Paris-Dakar-spec custom based on a Honda horizontal 125cc engine model was produced by Dirt Freak in 2020. This one is custom-built by ZETA, which specializes in off-road parts, and is fully loaded with parts for the Monkey 125. The tank, front and rear fenders and carrier are painted one-off to bring it closer to the Paris-Dakar image.

Since it is based on the red color set on the Monkey 125, it coordinates perfectly with the frame and front forks by simply painting the tank and front and rear fenders in the Paris-Dakar style.

A wide range of off-road and touring parts are available for the Monkey 125, including an adventure windshield, handlebars, and hand guards.

The exhaust system is a Delta (DELTA) Barrel 4-S MINI silencer.
It is a government-certified product that is compatible up to the 2021 model year.

Extra Edition German Custom Builder Creates Paris-Dakar Style Trucker

This is another custom based on the Monkey 125 and was built in Germany in 2018. The vehicle was created by local Kingston Customs (Kingston Customs) for Honda's exhibit at Glemsec 101, one of Europe's largest motorcycle events, and was used to promote the then newly released Monkey 125.

The coloring is the same tricolor as the XL125/250R Paris-Dakar introduced so far. The roots of this coloring are the XR500R that actually competed in the Paris-Dakar Rally in the early 1980s, and it will be a familiar color in Europe as well. Thus, the Paris-Dakar specification is considered to be an icon that can be used globally, making this the next candidate for the Daks 125.

The low handlebars and side covers with integrated number plate give the Monkey 125 a trucker's style.
The step, which was taken from Elsinore, also fits in nicely with the motorcycle.

The #70 number plate is also a custom commemorating the 70th anniversary of Honda Motor Company, which was founded in 1948 as of 2018.
