Gunner 125 Rivals Dax 125 | Difference in Equipment with MT 5-Speed Transmission

Motorcycle & Industry

The Dax 125, launched in September, is one of the most remarkable models of the 2022 model year.
However, there is one vehicle that is as unique as this one, and we would like to introduce it to you.
The Gunner 125, which landed from Thailand, is an original we have never seen before.

The Gunner 125 is added to the existing 50/100 for higher performance.

The new Gunner 125, which debuted at the March 2022 Motorcycle Show, shares the same chassis as the existing Gunner 50/100 and is powered by a 125cc engine. It began with the launch of the Gunner 50 in 2021, followed later by the Gunner 100. The lineup is being expanded in rapid succession.

The manufacturer, Phoenix Engineering, is a Thai motorcycle manufacturer, and its import to Japan is handled by Tsukiki Racing. Tsukiji is a constructor famous for its Tuned Ninja, which participated in the 1986 Suzuka 8H endurance race on a GPZ750R. Tsukiji has been building local connections since early on, and GPX Japan is another Tsukiki business.

The GUNNER series is characterized by a design in which the main frame resembles the barrel of a gun, as indicated by the car's name, GUN = gun. Its thickness gives it such an impactful style that the manufacturer's website describes it as a bazooka gun. In the latest Gunnar 125, the headlight has been downsized to LED.

The Gunner 125 uses a vertical, air-cooled, single-cylinder 125cc engine, as opposed to the 50/100's horizontal type.
Although maximum output has not been announced, the engine's 26.8cc larger displacement and higher compression ratio (from 7.1 to 9.2) compared to the Gunner 100 are expected to deliver increased power and performance.

A leisure bike in the Honda sense, the 125 can accommodate two riders, making it suitable for a wider range of uses. It is priced at (approx.) 2570 USD.

HONDA DAX 125. The latest model of Honda's leisure bikes was released on September 22 after a two-month delay. The structure of the tank inside the frame is not dissimilar to that of the Gunner 125. It is priced at (approx.) 2955 USD.

The Dax 125 is Honda's 125cc leisure bike series, the only two-seat-oriented concept in the series to feature a tandem seat as standard equipment. The Gunner 125 is likewise the only one in the series with a long seat and tandem step.

On the other hand, the biggest difference is that the Dax 125 has a 4-speed automatic centrifugal clutch, while the Gunner 125 has a 5-speed manual shift, similar to the Grom and Monkey 125. This difference is probably a major point of difference, as there is a desire for manual transmission for the Dax 125.

The unique barrel-shaped frame has a sporty configuration with a double cradle and rear mono suspension, and the tires are slimmer than those of the Grom, so a nimble ride can be expected. In addition, the Dax 125 has a 5.5-liter tank capacity, up 1 liter from the previous model, and the Dax 125 has a 3.8-liter tank capacity, so touring should be enjoyable.

The Gunner 125 is available in red and yellow. The overall length is 1770 mm, only 10 mm longer than the Dax.
The wheelbase is 1200 mm, the same as that of the Dax.

The front tire is a 100/90-12 size, 20 mm thinner than the Grom and Dax125. The disc brake uses a 2-pot caliper.

The front fork is an upright type with a single-point under-bracket fastening, which is common on scooters.
The Dax125 has an inverted fork mounted with upper and lower brackets.

The rear brakes also feature 2-pot calipers. Swingarm-mounted license plate holders and fenders are used.

The engine is an air-cooled single-cylinder SOHC 124cc. The engine is started by both cell and kick, and the transmission is a 5-speed return.

The intake is a carburetor, which is rare nowadays. The cylinder on the right side of the car body is an air cleaner.

The stem shaft is installed through the frame. The fuel tank cap is keyed.

The seat is like a cushion. A tandem belt is also available.

Only the Gunner 125 has a smaller headlight with LED.

Tail lamps are installed to block the barrel.

The meters have a simple display with a single analog eye and an LCD window.
