MV Agusta’s Concept Model「921S」Recreates 70’s Design「Flying Saucer」Expectations for Commercialization [Milan Show 2022]

Motorcycle & Industry

At the Milano Show 2022, MV Agusta unveiled a new concept model, the 921S. The tricolor body design is modeled after the famous 750S of yesteryear, but with a newly designed inline 4-cylinder engine and the latest specifications in terms of performance. Although no plans have been announced for a commercial release of this concept model, its detailed design makes it look realistic enough to be released on the market. We look forward to further news.

Faithfully reproduces the linear silhouette and concept of the 750S of the 1970s

Italy's MV Agusta produced many highly acclaimed sports models in the racing scene from the postwar period until its withdrawal from the market in 1976. The 921S, modeled after the 1973 750S, which marked the golden age of Agusta, was presented as a neo-retro sports car of modern standards.

The design and coloring are faithful to the model 750S, with a horizontal seat and tank. The silhouette of the distinctive overhanging tank, called the Disco Volante flying saucer, is also reproduced. Even the front brake discs are covered with aluminum drum brake covers. The exhaust, while short, is a tribute to the classic style, with four exhausts coming from directly below the engine.

However, the mechanism employed is of the latest standard. The engine is a newly designed liquid-cooled, DOHC, inline 4-cylinder engine with an output of 115.5 HP at 10,000 rpm. The frame has tubular steel trellis and aluminum alloy side plates and conforms to the latest MV Agusta models. The instrument panel is a round-style full LCD with a touch screen, and the LED headlight is supported by a metal stay. There also appears to be a structure that provides for switching between single and double seats.

The more one looks at the 921S, the more one realizes its high degree of perfection. Even though it is a concept model, the quality of the workmanship suggests the possibility of its commercialization. We look forward to further news from the manufacturer.

The 921S follows the coloring and design of the 750S, but the details are composed of the latest MV Agusta technology. Even if you are not an Agusta fan, you must pay attention to this model.

It is equipped with carbon and forged composite wheels and Ohlins front and rear suspension. The silencers are four-piece in homage to the classic style.

The handlebars are bar handles, but with a low profile that is oriented toward a café racer style. The lights are full LED, and the headlight has metal rims and cooling fins.

The newly designed inline 4-cylinder engine delivers 115.5 HP at 7000 rpm. The potential is state-of-the-art for a sports model, thanks to improved intake ducts, a new camshaft profile for an advanced response, original rods and pistons, and other features.

The 1970 750S adopted the most advanced air-cooled DOHC inline four-cylinder engine at the time. It was also highly successful in racing. The beautifully styled tank, called the Disco Volante flying saucer, is reproduced in silhouette in the 921S.

Here is a sketch of the meter layout. It has a unique tank-mounted arrangement.
