Continental GT650 Transformed into a Street Fighter with a Full Carbon Cowl [Hot Rod Show 2022]

Motorcycle & Industry

Yokohama Hot Rod Custom Show 2022, held at Pacifico Yokohama, is one of the largest custom car and motorcycle events in Japan, gathering custom builders and manufacturers from Japan and abroad.
Royal Enfield, exhibiting for the first time at the show, displayed three special custom machines based on the classic sports Continental GT650.
Let us introduce one of them, Midas Royale by(Rough Crafts)from Taiwan

New concept armed with a carbon cowl that looks good on the street

Midas Royale was created by Roughcraft, a custom manufacturer from Taiwan. Launched in 2010 by builder Winston Yeh, the brand creates custom Harley and Ducati models mainly in Europe. The brand attracts attention for its style of building up Harleys with innovative carbon cowls and billet parts, instead of the heavy metal parts that are usually seen on Harleys. Of course, domestic manufacturers are no exception to his customization, and he has participated in the customization project Yard Build (overseas website) led by Yamaha Europe, where he presented a combat-oriented street-fighter style XSR900.

Midas Royale is another streetfighter created in the image of an endurance racer, equipped with a modern, sporty carbon cowl that is in keeping with its worldview. More than the cowl, however, it is the raised seat cowl, mono-shock, and one-sided silencer that transform the prototype's classic, relaxed image.

Royal Enfield, exhibiting for the first time, will display three special models based on the company's classic sports Continental GT650. The Midas Royale is one of them.

While the previously introduced KAMALA was based on the concept of a board track racer with a retrospective of the classics, the Midas Royale is a modern street fighter. The carbon fiber cowl and the combat-inspired forward-leaning silhouette of the bike evoke the futuristic urban racer philosophy that has characterized Roughcraft's past custom machines.

The first thing that catches the eye is the beautiful twill weave carbon front cowl. This is painted with a gold pinstripe to retain the sporty yet classic feel of the base vehicle. The tank is equipped with special Royal Enfield and Roughcraft emblems.

The major customization in terms of mechanism is the suspension. The base vehicle had the orthodox combination of upright forks and twin shocks, but the front forks were replaced with Öhlins' inverted suspension. The rear shock was also changed to an Ohlins mono-shock. The standard swingarm could not be used, so a new swingarm was built. The seat rail was also modified to a single type to achieve this strong forward-leaning posture. The engine is standard, but the exhaust system was changed to SC Project's two-piece exhaust system.

In the movie released by Royal Enfield, this special machine can be seen speeding through the streets of Taiwan. The silhouette alone suggests a street-fighter based on a cutting-edge machine, but the air-cooled twin's distinctive crisp sound and free-running worldview is a fusion of classic and modern that only the Continental GT650 can deliver. Roughcraft, the company that produced this machine, also manufactures and sells custom parts. Unfortunately, the parts for this Midas Royale are not available, but Roughcraft's specialty is custom Harley parts, which are also available on Webike. If you are attracted to their philosophy, you may try to feed it back to your own machine.

In order to enhance riding potential, the engine was standard, but the suspension was heavily modified. The single shock absorber, which determines the impression of the rear, was made by Ohlins, and to install it, the swing arm was newly built and the frame required major modifications.

The front forks have also been changed to an inverted type. The front mask features asymmetrical small lights reminiscent of endurance racers of the past. The cat's eye design and pinstripes are a point of interest.
