On January 13, BMW announced the start of pre-orders for the new M-series model M 1000 R. The M1000R is a roadster model that bears the name of BMW's sub-brand BMW M and is BMW Motorrad's second M series. Reservations began on January 13, and the price is (approx.) 20380 USD.
The actual delivery is scheduled for late March.
High performance to meet all requirements of motorsports
The M 1000 R, which was just unveiled in October 2022, is powered by a liquid-cooled inline 4-cylinder engine that shares its basic design with the supersport S1000RR. With an increased output of 33 kW (45 PS), it delivers a maximum output of 154 kW (210 PS) at 13,750 rpm, maximum torque of 113 Nm at 11,000 rpm, and a maximum speed of 14,600 rpm. Aerodynamically, the motorcycle also incorporates excellent design features, such as "M winglets" and "wind deflectors," which improve downforce at high speeds, thereby delaying braking and reducing the tendency to wheelie, especially when riding on tracks, thereby enabling quicker acceleration. The "wind deflector" improves the downforce at high speeds.
The "M" series is a designation that BMW bestows on its particularly high-performance models. The M 1000 R is the second model to be released by Motorrad, following the full-cowl supersport M 1000 RR unveiled in September 2020.
The M RR shift cam engine, based on the S1000R adopted engine, delivers 33 kW (45 ps) more maximum power at 154 kW (210 ps)/13,750 rpm and maximum torque at 113 Nm/11,000 rpm. The suspension and chassis are also based on the S1000R but with a new fork spring base for additional adjustability.
Equipped with fully adjustable suspension with DDC (Dynamic Damping Control) and an adjustable steering damper, it has new ergonomics that differ from the S1000R. This new model is expected to deliver maximum performance on both winding roads and circuits. Four riding modes allow the suspension tuning to be adjusted individually at the touch of a button in the settings menu. In addition, a new DDC feature is the ability to adjust the fork spring base.
The M1000R has truly top-class potential. In Japan, the M1000R made its first public appearance at the Tokyo Auto Salon held from January 13 to 15, where it attracted a great deal of attention. At the same time, sales reservations were also started. The price is (approx.) 20380 USD, and actual delivery is scheduled to begin in late March.
The "M winglets" and "wind deflectors" are major features on the exterior. These features generate strong downforce when driving at high speeds, preventing the front end of the motorcycle from moving up and speeding up acceleration.
The electrical system is of course controlled by the latest electronic controls. The DDC control allows optimal suspension settings to be made on the LCD monitor, and the DDC damping characteristic Road Dyn (Road Dynamic) can also be used.
