COMPARISON: ZX-4RR/ZX-4R vs ZX-25R Which to Buy?! Thorough Comparison of Regular License Supersports [Motorcycle Show 2023]

Motorcycle & Industry

【Chassis】Steel trellis frame is common

The frames show no differences at all. In terms of body dimensions, the ZX-4R/ZX-4RR is 10 mm longer in overall length, probably due to the difference in front and rear tire sizes. Also, the reason for the 15mm wider overall width of the 4R/4RR is unknown, but the handlebar weights appear to be larger in comparison.

Both the ZX-25R and 4R/4RR use SHOWA's SFF-BP inverted fork with a diameter of 37 mm for the front fork. Both use 4-pot radial-mount calipers with variant pistons (upper diameter 32 mm, lower diameter 30 mm), but the discs are different: 310 mm in diameter for the 25R and 290 mm x 2 for the 4R/4RR.

Both rear suspensions are horizontally-mounted horizontal back-link suspensions, and the brakes are 220mm-diameter discs with one-pot calipers with 38mm-diameter pistons. The suspension stroke is 120mm at the front and 116mm at the rear for the standard unit R and increased to 122-124mm for the BFRC-lite RR.

Both tires are Dunlop GPR300 radial tires. The sizes are also different in load index and speed symbols, with the 25R being 110/70R17 54H front and 150/60R17 66H rear and the 4R/4RR being 120/70ZR17 (58W) front and 160/60ZR17 (69W) rear, indicating that the 4R/4RR is more high-performance.

ZX-4RR frame and suspension. The rear suspension on the RR has been changed to SHOWA's BFRC-lite, which is fully adjustable. The RR's front fork is also pre-load adjustable.

This is the first generation ZX-25R. Both the 25R and 4R use SHOWA's SFF-BP 37mm diameter front. The horizontally mounted rear suspension and steel trellis frame dimensions were modeled after the ZX-10R.

The top is ZX-4RR and the bottom is ZX-25RR. the overall width is 765mm and 750mm, a difference of 15mm, but this is due to the difference in handlebars since mirrors are not included. The bar end weights appear to be different in size.

ZX-25R on the left and ZX-4R/ZX-4RR on the right. The difference in brakes is obvious at a glance, but the differences in disc diameter and tire size are difficult to distinguish.

Only the ZX-25RR and ZX-4RR are equipped with the high-performance BFRC-lite. It is fully adjustable for rebound damping force and preload adjustment. A horizontal mounting system minimizes the effect of engine heat.

【Electronic control】4.3-inch color TFT meters are common equipment.

The ZX-4R/ZX-4RR uses the same TFT color LCD screen meter as the Ninja 650 and other models. The ZX-25R, which previously used an analog tachometer, also uses the same TFT meter for the 2023 model year, so the same equipment can be expected for the Japanese version.

The electronic control system inherits the two power modes and three levels of traction control used initially by the ZX-25R, which the 4R/4RR also inherits, but evolves them into an integrated set of riding modes to be selected from sport, road, rain, and optional. The 2023 ZX-25R will likely adopt the same controls.

In addition, the quick shifter for up-and-down support continues and is standard equipment depending on the specifications.

The ZX-4R/ZX-4RR's 4.3-inch TFT meter has a choice of black or white background and automatically adjusts brightness. A lap timer mode for circuit driving can also be selected as the display theme.

The 4R/4RR riding mode will be set up like this. KTRC = TRACTION CONTROL, F for power mode is full power. It is expected to be introduced in the 2023 ZX-25R series.

The quick shifter, which allows shifting up and down without using the clutch, is standard equipment on the ZX-4RR and ZX-4R SE. In Japan, it is standard equipment on the ZX-25R SE.
