The new CBR650R and CB650R with E-clutch that Honda unveiled at the Milan show will likely be available in Japan.
More color variations are expected to be available with the E-clutch.
The name of the car is「CBR650R/CB650R Honda E-Clutch」
Honda's Honda E-Clutch is a mechanism that automatically controls the clutch operation.
It differs significantly from DCT in that the rider can operate the clutch manually at the same time. The 2024 CBR650R & CB650R, the first models equipped with this system, were unveiled at the Milano Show.
Sales of the new CBR650R and CB650R have been announced in Japan, but it is not clear if they will be equipped with the E-Clutch.
According to our research, the CBR650R/CB650R Honda E-Clutch will be released in Japan in mid-June 2024, and the CBR and CB will be released simultaneously.
In addition, both the CBR and CB will be available in two color variations with the E-clutch, while the STD will be available in only one color, suggesting that Honda will adopt a sales strategy that focuses mainly on the E-clutch. This suggests that Honda is confident that the E clutch is a mechanism that will be popular among many riders.
However, we are informed that the E-clutch will not be compatible with AT licenses, so it can be said to be a more comfortable mechanism for veterans who want to enjoy riding in traffic jams.
In addition, the E-clutch can be installed on existing engines without major modifications, so the cost increase will be much lower than with a DCT. The price will be known around April.

What is the world's first「Honda E-Clutch」for motorcycles?
Honda has developed the world's first Honda E-Clutch, which eliminates the need for the rider to manually operate the clutch lever by automatically controlling the clutch operation of a motorcycle's manual transmission. This technology eliminates the need for the rider to operate the clutch lever when starting, shifting gears, and stopping.
The rider only needs to operate the shift pedal to make quick and stable gear changes by the system. This is a welcome feature for beginners, as it eliminates the possibility of stalling while riding. As in a standard manual transmission vehicle, the clutch can also be operated manually, which is also satisfactory for experienced riders.
The system can be selected from two patterns, on or off. When on, the clutch operation is automatically controlled, and the rider can temporarily switch to manual clutch operation by holding the clutch lever. When off, the clutch must be operated by the rider at all times.
The E-clutch uses a conventional single clutch and transmission and combines engine control technology with clutch control technology. Since it can be installed without major changes to existing engines, it is likely to be introduced in a variety of models in the future.

Honda E-Clutch [HONDA] Two motors operate the clutch for the rider. The clutch can use almost all the sensors available on modern motorcycles, except for the clutch disengagement.

The system consists of two motors and gears. The advantage is that the existing clutch and transmission can be used, so the CB650R does not need to be designed specifically for this purpose, and only 2 kg more is needed.

The E-Clutch allows the rider to choose between three settings of hard, medium, or soft force on the shift pedal. The settings can be adjusted to suit each rider's riding style.

The newly adopted 5-inch TFT color display can be used to set the e-clutch.

E-clutch setting screen. The strength of the force to press the shift pedal can be selected based on the operating feel.

The shift point can be set, but it appears to be the indicator's rotation setting.

He said the meters can be operated directly tubularly with the cross switch on the left.

The Honda E clutch is mounted on the outside of the cover. Another advantage is that it can be adapted to existing engines.

The engine is compliant with Euro 5+ (plus) regulations as well as introducing an E-clutch, and a revised ECU and catalyst OBD2-2 sensor has been added.
