The new 990DUKE, which had been talked about for its overseas launch in July 2023, will be released in Japan in July 2024. It is equipped with a new 947cc engine with a maximum output of 123 PS, and the manufacturer's suggested retail price is approx. 11855 USD (including tax). It will be available in two colors, orange and black, but so far it appears that the black version will be released in Japan. Let's review the specifications and features of the new 990DUKE before its release.
The DUKE New Standard Streetfighter ushers in a new era for KTM!
Many people know KTM's DUKE series as the aggressive naked, street-fighter series.
The year 2024 marks the 30th anniversary of the DUKE series, and new DUKE models have been announced one after another since the beginning of this year.
The 990 DUKE is a completely new model based on the previous 890 DUKE R series. Developed around a lightweight chassis, it is the "ultimate mid-naked" model and will be part of KTM's 30th anniversary.
Although a DUKE bearing the name "990" has been in the lineup before, the engine mounted on the 990 DUKE to be released this time is a completely new model. The 899cc "LC8c" engine used in the 890 series has been enlarged by 48cc and now boasts a displacement of 947cc, which is equivalent to the displacement of the liter class.

Compared to the 890DUKE R, engine output has increased from 89 kW (121 PS) to 90.5 kW (123 PS). Newly designed pistons, crankshaft, and connecting rods are used, and the maximum torque is 103 Nm.
The newly designed frame also has an 8% increase in lateral rigidity and a 5% increase in torsional rigidity for improved hand linkage. Rear wheel traction was also improved by reducing the rigidity of the swing arm by 35%.
The most significant change is in the design of the headlight area. In a departure from the DUKE's previous face, the new headlights feature two vertical LEDs. The position light and daytime running light are positioned to surround the lights, giving them a more eccentric appeal. The motorcycle is also equipped with a "coming home light" function that illuminates the surroundings for a while after the key is turned off, adding to the convenience of the car.
A new 5-inch TFT meter has been adopted. The meter can be connected to a smartphone by installing the dedicated "KTM CONNECT" app, and USB-TypeC is standard equipment.
In addition, five riding modes can be set, allowing for a flexible response to road conditions and driving situations.

The front fork is WP APEX 43mm. Five-step adjustability allows for a high degree of freedom of position.

The LED headlights are even more impressive. The convenience of the daytime running lights, which automatically adjust illumination intensity according to ambient brightness, is noteworthy.

The 5-inch TFT meter gives the impression of being even easier to read.
