Webike Community's My Bike introduces various motorcycles in the "Owner Review Summary" based on the opinions of owners who ride or have ridden these motorcycles.
This time, we bring you the honest opinions of the Kawasaki "ZX-10R" owners!
To be honest, the Kawasaki ZX-10R is this kind of motorcycle!!
Following the change in regulations for the World Superbike Championship (WSB) to increase engine displacement, the Ninja ZX-10R (marketing code: ZX1000C), a super sports model with a 998cc engine displacement, was released in 2004 as the successor to the ZX-9R. What attracted the most attention was that it was the first commercially available motorcycle in the world to have a power-to-weight ratio of less than 1.
That's a power-to-weight ratio of less than 1, meaning a peak power of over 170 horsepower for a dry weight of 170 kg. The Ninja ZX-10R's maximum output is 175 hp (184 hp with ram air pressure) at 11,700 rpm, achieving a power-to-weight ratio of 0.97. In addition, based on the concept of "No. 1 circuit performance," it is packed with technology derived from the Ninja ZX-RR, a MotoGP machine at the time, and the body components for winning races, such as the "short wheelbase and long swingarm," have not changed since its introduction 20 years ago.
Since its debut in 2004, it has undergone a full model change every two years, with the 2006 model (marketing code: ZX1000D) and the 2008 model (marketing code: ZX1000E). The 2011 model (marketing code: ZX1000J/K) was renewed with a completely new design for the engine, frame, and front and rear suspensions, finally reaching 200ps. The styling, including the front mask, was also revised for this 2011 model to a more edgy design following the modern Ninja series, and the traction control system and ABS control were also brushed up to be more suitable for advanced racing.
The Ninja ZX-10R has been further refined in each part since then, and the main features of each year are as follows: the 2016 model (ZX1000R/S) is equipped with a Bosch 5-axis IMU and the electronic control system is updated; the 2017 model (ZX1000Z) is equipped with special parts such as Marchesini aluminum forged wheels, and the "RR" model with specifications close to those of the factory machines in the Superbike World Championship is released; the 2018 model (ZX1002C) is equipped with a semi-active type electronically controlled suspension, and the "SE" model is released, which combines circuit range settings with comfort.
The 2019 model (ZX1002E/G/H) has an improved maximum output of 203ps (RR has 204ps with titanium connecting rods) and has been officially released as a domestic model instead of a reverse import model. The 2011 model (ZX1002L/N) has been released with an advanced cowl design with integrated winglets while changing the body dimensions.
...And that's how much text there is to give just a quick rundown. I can't write about all the detailed changes here, but one thing I can say is that the Ninja ZX-10R was created to win races. In fact, "Jonathan Rea won an unprecedented six consecutive titles in the Superbike World Championship from 2015 to 2020 season." Many owners apparently purchased the Ninja ZX-10R because they admired its track record in races.

It is especially noteworthy that the riding and looks categories received scores of 4.5 or higher. In fact, many owners have a strong attachment to the appearance, and in terms of riding, many owners chose this ZX-10R because Jonathan Rea won the Superbike World Championship six times in a row with it.
On the other hand, the lowest score was 2 or less for loading capacity. Since it is a super sports bike, it is natural that the loading capacity on the pillion seat is low, but there were also comments such as "When I installed a dashcam, the ETC onboard unit did not fit under the pillion seat." In addition, although there are few reviews, we will introduce the Ninja ZX-10RR, which is limited to 500 units worldwide (from the 2019 model).

A quick summary of the ZX-10R
PROS
The ultimate specs are over 200 PS (2011 model or later).
Lightweight. High power is the only word that comes to mind.
Sixth consecutive Superbike championship, driven by Jonathan Rey
Good engine sound even when stock.
CONS
Riding posture is hard because it is a supersport model.
It is impossible to achieve all the performance in the area of public roads.
・High power, tires wear out fast and cost a lot of money.
Low load capacity, almost nothing can be loaded.
ZX-10R Owner's Voice
Here are a few of many reviews and testimonials since the domestic modeling in the 2019 model year.
Ninja MR. Ri Ban Ban (2019)
Motive for purchase, intended use, and comparative Models | Ever since I rode the NINJA250, the 16-20 ZX-10R has been something I've admired. The SE-exclusive color scheme is sophisticated and cool. It's the only 10R to date to be equipped with electronic suspension. It's used for commuting, touring, and circuits. For comparison, it has the H2 CARBON, H2 SXSE, and NIKEN |
---|---|
Pros/Satisfactory Points | ・It is so easy to handle that you'll be fooled into thinking you've improved your riding skills. ・Combined with the electronic suspension, the cornering characteristics are excellent and flawless. ・All the parts attached are first-class (from the exhaust pipe to the silencer, it's titanium), so there's almost no need to change them aftermarket. ・The increased weight due to the electronic suspension is covered by the same Marchesini forged wheels as the RR. |
Disadvantages/Dissatisfactions | ・Your hands and arms will hurt if you ride for long periods of time. Riding tandem is for emergencies. ・If you install a dashcam (DAYTONA's Mio), you won't be able to fit an ETC. ・No cruise control up to this point. ・You'll need to be prepared for maintenance costs like tyres. ...But I was prepared for all of this when I decided to drive a litre SS, so it's fine. |
Advice for prospective buyers | hen you open the throttle, it becomes ferocious, but it is surprisingly easy to handle during normal riding. It is fast and can compete with any sports motorcycle. I think the maintenance costs are no different from other SSs, but the only painful thing is the tire costs (about $504.92/use) once every 1-2 years. Still, the satisfaction of driving a WSB champion is something you can't get anywhere else. It is perfect for those who want to experience the exhilaration of gallantly driving through the streets. |
Motive for purchase, intended use, and comparative car models | Because I can get a Jonathan Rea autographed T-shirt. The ZX-10R looks great. ...But, a new model is coming out, so I was thinking of buying it when it comes out, but I lost out to the Jonathan Rea autographed T-shirt. |
---|---|
Pros/Satisfactory Points | ・It is a ZX-10R replica. I have ridden the ZX-10R in 2008, 2012, and 2015 up until this ZX-10R, and this is the easiest to ride. |
Disadvantages/Dissatisfactions | ・After all, you can't ride it unless you get your tension up before you can ride it. You have to be prepared. There's no way around the forward-leaning posture and suspension settings, so you have to get your tension up. |
Advice for prospective buyers | It's a great motorcycle. I've also ridden an S1000RR, but since it has won the Superbike Championship several times in a row if I were to choose a replica motorcycle, it would have to be the ZX-10R. |
JIRO (2019)
Motive for purchase, intended use, and comparative car models | Performance and looks. It's still a first-class speed. I bought the RS model because I don't like the design of the current model. |
---|---|
Pros/Satisfactory Points | ・Because it is an SE model, it is equipped with everything you could want. ・It can be removed just after the exhaust foot (wasteful parts of the catalyst and the exhaust valve), so simply replacing it with a link pipe will make the performance comparable to a full exhaust. ・The burnt color of the heated titanium of the original exhaust foot is amazing! |
Disadvantages/Dissatisfactions | ・The tank is large in size and appearance. Maybe it's an older design? |
Advice for prospective buyers | Would the ideal be the CBR-RRR? I don't have any other complaints. |
Check out ZX-10R's Competitors
The 1000cc class supersport model is the base model for the Superbike Championship. For that reason, many supersport models rival the ZX-10R, including the Honda CBR1000RR-R FIREBLADE, Yamaha YZF-R1, and Suzuki GSX-R1000R (discontinued model) from the four domestic manufacturers, and all of them are priced at over $14516.45 for a new motorcycle.
Looking at overseas manufacturers, BMW's M1000RR, Ducati's Panigal V4R, and Aprilia's RSV4 are among the candidates, which are used as base models for the Superbike Championship.
