HYOD, a long-established motorcycle wear brand, has released its first airbag system, AIR-BOOST. It uses no cables and is activated by a sensor linked to a smartphone app. It comes in three colors and costs 54,890 yen including tax. Let's take a look at how well it works.
The latest airbag that can be used on both regular roads and circuits
When you hear about motorcycle airbags, many people probably think of them as being for the circuit. However, in recent years, they have been gradually spreading on public roads, and are even officially adopted by police motorcycle officers.
The newly released Hyodo "AIR-BOOST" is a very versatile model that can be used not only on the circuit but also on public roads and off-road riding. This one product can be used in a wide range of situations, and you can choose from three modes to suit the riding situation.
Moreover, it is a vest type with a compact design, and it is great that it can be used with not only Hyodo's clothes but also clothes from other companies. It comes in a wide lineup from S size to 3L size, and is "designed specifically for Japanese people" to fit the Japanese body.

The Air Boost body is made of a highly stretchable material, so it does not hinder the rider's movements.
Laser-cut air through holes is placed in various parts on the front of the Air Boost body, and breathable and stretchy mesh panels are used on the front and sides.
With three modes, it can be used in a wide range of situations!
Here is a breakdown of the three modes. "STREET MODE" is a mode designed for use on asphalt roads with good traffic conditions. For general use, this mode will likely be used.
"TRACK MODE" is a mode designed specifically for circuit riding, as its name suggests, and has been tested by MotoGP riders since 2016. It was also introduced to the Japanese racing scene in 2018, and data has been accumulated from many professional riders, including Katsuyuki Nakasuga and Yukio Kagayama.
The "ADVENTURE MODE", which received feedback from the Dakar Rally, is intended for use in trail runs, off-road rallies, and enduros. However, it is not compatible with activities such as motocross, hard enduro, trials, freestyle, flat track, and hill climbing.

What is "In&box", a constantly evolving detection system?
Why can it be used in such a wide range of situations? The secret lies in the "In&box" developed by IN&MOTION, which is attached to the back protector. This sensor is equipped with three accelerometers and three gyroscopes, and detects the rider's movement in real-time, measuring up to 1,000 times per second. Based on data from 70,000 riders covering a total of 200 million kilometers, a highly accurate detection system was developed using a proprietary algorithm.
The time it takes for the sensor to first detect the risk of a fall is only 0.03 seconds. Then 0..Since the airbag inflates in 025 seconds, 0. It means that personal safety can be secured in 055 seconds. Incidentally, the average time between the fall and the rider's contact with the ground is 0. Since it is said to be 07 seconds, it is calculated to be just in time.
What's even more surprising is that the more you use this system, the more it will constantly evolve. Data collected by In&box is sent to IN&MOTION, which then feeds back to the detection system to provide more optimal protection. Of course, the data is collected anonymously, so you can rest assured.
This is also related to the data collected by In&box, but to use Air Boost, you must register with the mobile app "My In&box." Although there are several system usage fees, such as purchasing or leasing, you can use many services, such as checking the connection between the airbag system and the inflator (gas generator), checking the remaining battery level, changing the detection mode (street mode, track mode, adventure mode), and the friend introduction system.
The Air Boost is an affordable airbag with a sensor that doesn't easily become bulky, making it the perfect product for those new to motorcycle airbags.
