A bobber is a custom cruiser style that originated in the United States, which started by “cutting off unnecessary parts to make it lighter” in order to make it a race machine that can run dirt tracks faster, and is characterized by a simple appearance and a slim, compact body. In contrast to the traditional flashy and glamorous cruisers, the bobber focuses on a simple design with unnecessary parts cut off and the body and fenders shortened.

The X-ADV, popular for its unique SUV style, is rumored to be undergoing a model change and will be introduced in Japan in December 2024. In line with the new model announced in Europe, it will feature cruise control and a new style, and the DCT will also be improved. It appears that the usability of each part has also been updated in detail.

It will be improved in the same way as the European model, and will be available in three colors in Japan.

Since its debut in 2017, Honda's X-ADV has been popular mainly in Europe as a unique large crossover. It features a scooter style that looks good both in the city and in nature, and combines a 749cc water-cooled parallel twin-cylinder engine from the on-road model NC750 series with a semi-automatic DCT.

The European version of the 2025 model, which has already been announced, has undergone a major change since 2021, with a completely new design. In addition to the introduction of DRL with integrated turn signals, the long-awaited cruise control has also been adopted to increase its appeal.

According to information obtained by the editorial department, it seems that the domestic version will be ready with a similar package. Four body colors will be available in Europe, but we expect that the Japanese version will be available in three colors: matte gray, white, and yellow.

The 2025 X-ADV was announced in Europe. The style has become more linear, and the cowl and seat have also been improved. It seems that the Japanese version will also undergo the same model change. The photo shows the matte Goldfinch Yellow color with futuristic graphics.

European spec matte deep mud grey. This will also be introduced in the Japanese spec.

The European version of Pearl Glare White will also be available in Japan. The European version of Graphite Black will not be available in Japan.

Conventional X-ADV (Japanese specifications), gaining edgy styling and 5-inch full-color TFT LCD meters from the 2021 model year. 1,320,000 yen.

Smart face with Built-in Blinkers + Slit DRLs

The new exterior design integrates the front turn signals, which were previously separate, into the headlights. It has a cooler look, and also features a newly designed DRL (daytime running light). The DRL is placed along the top of the headlight, with the turn signals at the top.

The screen is easier to operate. Previously, it required five strokes with both hands to adjust, but now it can be done with three strokes with one hand. In addition, the vertical adjustment range has been expanded from 135mm to 139mm.

Another topic is the extensive use of sustainable materials in various parts of the exterior. This is the first time that Mitsubishi Chemical's DURABIO black-colored material has been used for the exterior of a motorcycle. This is the first time that a Honda motorcycle uses recycled materials from four-wheel bumpers.

The headlights are now longer and sharper, with a newly designed DRL installed at the top. The turn signals at the top appear to be the same as those on the Japanese model.

The headlights have been made smaller and the turn signals have been built in, making the face look smaller. The motorcycle name logo has also been added to the screen bracket.

The conventional front mask has a central line that is a DRL and LED headlights on the top and bottom, but the new model has a four-eye type.

The internal structure and controls of the screen have been redesigned, allowing it to be adjusted in three steps. The adjustment range has also been expanded from 135 to 139 mm.

Equipped with cruise control, the DCT has also evolved to make starting and extremely low speeds more comfortable.

The new X-ADV also offers improved performance. The 749cc water-cooled parallel twin now comes standard with cruise control. This long-awaited feature, combined with the improved exterior, makes cruising easier.

The DCT has also evolved to the latest generation. In addition to the control detected by the conventional hydraulic sensor, the new hydraulic estimation control is fed back, enabling excellent clutch response and delicate connection. The characteristics are closer to the rider's sensibilities, and it seems that starting characteristics and maneuverability at extremely low speeds have been improved in particular.

The specifications, such as maximum output of 58 PS and maximum torque of 7.0 kg-m, appear to be unchanged from the previous model. The vehicle weight is said to have increased by 1 kg to 237 kg.

The DCT, which can be selected between push button shifting and automatic transmission, improves smoothness when starting and making U-turns. The suspension, including the body, φ41mm inverted forks + radial calipers, and rear link-type suspension, follow the conventional type.

The comfort of each part, including the seat, meters, and switches, has been improved.

While the seat height remains the same as the previous model at 790mm, the shape of the front has been changed to improve the reach of the feet. In addition, the amount of urethane has been increased by 10% to provide a comfortable ride.

The seat can be opened and closed with a hinge, and the damper has been changed from one side to both sides, improving the feel when opening and closing. In addition, the trunk lighting has been significantly increased from 130mW to 700mW, making it more convenient at night.

The multi-function 5-inch color TFT LCD meter has reduced screen reflections to improve visibility. A new 4-way select switch is installed on the left side of the handlebars, making settings and operation easier. LEDs are also built into the switch, improving both appearance and usability.

The shape of the front part of the seat has been changed to improve foot reach and ride comfort.

The large-capacity 22L trunk now has new dampers on both sides, and the lighting has been brightened.

The 5-inch TFT meter reduces reflections to improve visibility during the day. The display content has also been changed. It is equipped with a smartphone connection function and can also input voice commands using Honda RoadSync.

As the functions have become more complex, a four-way switch has been newly adopted. It also has a built-in LED for high visibility.

The price has increased by more than 0.44 from the previous model, so will it be released in Japan in December?

The Japanese model will go on sale on December 12, 2024, and is expected to be priced at 1,438,800 yen (gray and white) and $9907.13 (yellow), compared to the current $8885.32. Orders for the current model have already closed and only in-store stock is available, but those looking to keep the price down may want to look for the conventional model.

Either way, we look forward to the arrival of the new X-ADV in Japan, which has improved looks and comfort.

The photo shows a European model with the option. It seems that projector fog lights will also be available in Japan.

It appears that new options will also be available, such as pannier cases that can be opened and closed with a single key (photo: European specification), comfort seats, and accessory sockets on the handlebars.
