[Webike Overseas] Is the Aprilia Tuono 457 Suitable for Beginners?

Motorcycle

Aprilia recently announced the new mid-size supersport "RS457" at the Milan Show (EICMA), which caused quite a stir. However, at the same time, they also announced the naked version of this, the "Tuono 457," which I would like to introduce. The launch date and price of this model in Japan have not yet been announced.

The new Aprilia "Tuono 457" is a bike packed with unique style and the latest technology

The new Tuono 457 boasts the best power-to-weight ratio in its category, making it easy to handle and purely fun to ride. It is packed with the latest technology, including a class-leading twin-cylinder engine, a lightweight aluminum frame, ride-by-wire, traction control, and an electronic control system with three riding modes, to deliver the best performance!

A functional design that pursues the sportiness that is characteristic of Aprilia

The Aprilia Tuono 457 evokes Aprilia's signature style with its triple full LED headlight cluster. The small spoiler, with its highly aerodynamic properties, pays homage to the legendary Tuono 1000R and reflects the design of all Aprilia road bikes in this range. The new tank shape expresses sportiness and is ergonomically designed specifically to match the wide handlebars for a dynamic and fun ride. It also features new side panels and tailpiece designs, and the rear light cluster is also full LED. The positioning of the exhaust system under the engine also contributes to the clean look of the bike and allows more freedom in terms of the positioning of the passenger footrests.

Every detail is the result of a functional and sporty design, which, combined with the low seat with narrow sides, ensures a comfortable yet dynamic ride at all times.

Modern twin-cylinder engine with best-in-class power output

The Tuono 457 is based on the modern 457cc twin-cylinder engine just introduced in Aprilia's technological masterpiece, the RS 457.

The engine develops a maximum power output of 47.6 PS at 9400 rpm, making it the highest power output of any motorcycle that can be ridden with an A2 license, the equivalent of a medium-sized European license. It also develops 43.5 Nm of torque at 6700 rpm, of which 82% is already available at 3000 rpm. The bike offers record levels of performance for a twin-cylinder of this engine size.

Lightweight chassis achieves power-to-weight ratio of 3.3kg/PS

The Tuono 457 benefits from Aprilia's many years of racing experience, with a layout focused on maximum weight reduction and the dynamic behavior common to all Aprilia bikes. It is the only bike in its segment with an aluminum frame that guarantees dynamic excellence. Designed using advanced techniques of computer-aided engineering and thoroughly road tested, the frame gives the bike a dry weight of just 159 kg, making it extremely light and agile, setting a record for a power-to-weight ratio of 3.3 kg/PS, the best in its class.

The suspension package is also state-of-the-art, with a 41 mm fork with 120 mm stroke and a rear shock absorber with 130 mm stroke, both preload adjustable, operating on an asymmetrical steel swingarm. The braking system is equipped with two ByBre calipers (radial mount at the front) that work on two steel discs, 320 mm at the front and 220 mm at the rear. The brakes are supported by a Bosch two-channel ABS system with dual mapping that can be used on both wheels or just the front.

A wealth of technology to evolve rider enjoyment and safety

The electronics of the Tuono 457 have been developed with two goals in mind: to enhance riding enjoyment and ensure maximum safety in all conditions. The ride-by-wire system, first introduced by Aprilia in MotoGP with the RS Cube and in production with the Shiver, features three riding modes to adjust the power and torque delivery, as well as traction control that can be set to three levels. Riders can enjoy optimal engine management and traction control settings simply by selecting the mode that best suits their riding style and the situation.

A state-of-the-art TFT 5-inch color display is fitted as standard, and the handlebars feature practical and intuitive backlit handlebar commands.

The colors are Aprilia's traditional red and urban gray.

The Tuono 457 is available in two different graphic versions: the Piranha Red livery is based on black and red, classic colours from Aprilia's history, and emphasises the sporty nature of the Tuono 457. The second graphic version is called Puma Grey, a more subdued grey and white livery that gives the Tuono 457 an urban look.
