The new YZF-R3 for Europe and North America debuted last October (2024), and its 250cc version, the new YZF-R25 and the streetfighter model MT-25, made their world debut in Indonesia.
Sibling models leading the light motorcycle class
The YZF-R25 and MT-25 are siblings that share the same engine, frame, and other main components. The engine mounted on the YZF-R25 is a liquid-cooled, DOHC, 4-valve, parallel twin-cylinder 249cc engine that complies with Euro 5+ emission regulations. The maximum output is 26.5 kW/12000 rpm and the maximum torque is 23.6 Nm/10000 rpm for both models. The Indonesian model has a maximum output of 26 kW/12000 rpm and maximum torque of 23 Nm/10000 rpm.

The YZF-R25, which got a new design with winglets, follows the new R series design. The "Racing Blue" color is reminiscent of the YZF-M1.

The simple "Metallic Black" color emphasizes the sharp design of the new YZF-R25.

The design around the seat of the MT-25 has been significantly redesigned, and the "Metallic Light Gray" model features striking light blue wheels.

The "matte black" finish, which is matte and austere, matches the street-fighter design of the MT-25.

The power units of the YZF-R25 and MT-25 are essentially the same: a DOHC 4-valve, parallel twin-cylinder 249cc with a maximum output of 26.5 kW, max. torque 23.6Nm.
The frame is a steel diamond frame with 37mm diameter inverted front forks and a linkless monoshock in the rear. The new YZF-R25 weighs 166 kg.
The meter is a full LCD type multifunction digital speedometer, which is basically the same for both models. The meter is equipped with a shift timing light and can be connected to the Y-Connect application via Bluetooth.

The YZF-R25's LCD meter is equipped with a shift timing light to support sporty driving.

The MT-25 uses basically the same LCD meter as the YZF-R25. Necessary information is displayed in a manner that is easily visible to the rider.

By connecting to the Y-Connect application, the system can manage a variety of information.
YZF-R25 has been fully redesigned
The YZF-R25 is similar to its siblings, the YZF-R7 and YZF-R9, and features a new "YZF-R" design with a projector headlight in the center and LED-type lights on both sides. Air ducts are provided on the sides, and above them are winglets derived from the works racer YZF-M1. The tail wing is also designed into the seat cowl, and the chassis design has evolved to incorporate aerodynamics. The seat height is 780 mm, numerically the same as the model through 2024, but the same design as the European-spec YZF-R3, which is more narrowly focused for better footing. Two color schemes will be available: "Racing Blue," which evokes the image of Yamaha's works racers, and "Metallic Black.

This is the side view of the YZF-R25. The handlebars are set high for the YZF-R series, a position suitable for multiple uses.

Given a new face design, the front view has changed dramatically. A wing was installed on the seat cowl, and the tail design was also freshened up.

The new R series design with a projector headlight in the center, adopted from the YZF-R7.

The winglets are integrated with the ducts and designed to lead directly to the side cowls.

The kill switch and starter switch are integrated, and the design around the handlebar is simple.

On the left side of the panel, a USB-A type power socket, which has become indispensable for modern motorcycles, is provided as STD equipment.

The tail light is an LED type, and is designed as an integral part of the seat cowl, creating a compact design.

The compact exhaust system adds a sporty touch to the design and driving experience.

The front fork is a 37mm diameter inverted type. Dual-piston calipers are used for the brakes, and ABS is also equipped.

The rear tire size is as wide as 140 mm, which together with the appropriately rigid swingarm supports a sporty ride.
MT-25 with newly designed seat cowl
The headlight area and fuel tank area of the MT-25 remain largely unchanged from the model up to 2024, and it is equipped with a three-lens type bikini cowl that combines the characteristic projector headlight and LED lights. The design from the side covers to the tail cowl has been redesigned, giving it a sharper look. The new model is available in two color schemes: "metallic light gray" with striking light blue wheels, and "matte black," a trendy matte color.

Equipped with a unique bikini cowl with a trinocular type headlight common to the MT series and an air scoop.

The 37mm-diameter inverted front fork has a black-finished outer tube to tighten up the front area.

The design of the seat cowl has been significantly changed, and the design around the tail has been sharpened. The taillight and blinkers are LED.

The impactful wheel colors give the MT-25 a more lively image. The wheels and swingarm are shared with the TZF-R25.
Can we expect YZF-R25 and MT-25 in Philippines?
The YZF-R25 and MT-25 will naturally be introduced in some Asian countries but there is no news yet as to when these 2 models of 250cc version will be released in Philippine market.

These models are likely to be announced at the Tokyo Motorcycle Show in March. The specifications are not expected to differ significantly from those of the Indonesian version.
