On March 21, YAMAAHA Motor will introduce the new "YECVT" electronically controlled CVT, which enhances the fun of riding, to the liquid-cooled 155cm³ "BLUE CORE" engine of the "NMAX155 ABS" light motorcycle scooter as the 2025 model year. The newly adopted "YECVT" electronically changes the gear ratio of the CVT according to the rider's operation, providing a driving feel similar to that of a manual transmission vehicle, which has been difficult to experience with a mechanical CVT.
There are three color variations available: Matte Dark Reddish Gray, Black, and Light Blue.
"YECVT" Electronically Controlled CVT is Newly Adopted. Expanded "Riding Pleasure" and New Styling
YAMAHA Motor Sales Co., Ltd. will launch the "NMAX155 ABS" light motorcycle scooter on March 21 as the 2025 model year, featuring a new liquid-cooled 155 cm³ "BLUE CORE*" engine and the YECVT electronically controlled CVT that enhances riding pleasure.
Like the "NMAX TURBO" already announced in YAMAHA Indonesia, the new "NMAX155 ABS" features the electronically controlled CVT "YECVT" and driving mode switching. Although not actually equipped with a turbo, the electronically controlled CVT can change gear ratios according to the rider's operation, providing a driving feel similar to that of a manual transmission vehicle, which is difficult to experience with a mechanical CVT.
The "Driving Mode Switching" function allows different gearshift characteristics to be selected as desired by switching the map for gearshift of the drive train. Two driving modes are available: "T mode" for smooth driving in urban areas with fuel economy in mind, and "S mode" for responsive driving on winding roads.
In addition, the shift down function changes the deceleration ratio at any given timing to achieve driving characteristics similar to downshifting in a manual transmission vehicle. This function provides the rider with a wider range of control and fun in situations such as “when you want to pass the motorcycle in front smoothly,” “when you want to decelerate using the engine brake on a long downhill,” “when you want to accelerate comfortably when exiting a corner after decelerating into it,” etc. The rider can downshift up to three levels, depending on the state of acceleration or deceleration, by pressing the SHIFT button or by opening the throttle suddenly.
In addition, the suspension settings have been optimized. In the rear, the stroke was extended by 5 mm (compared to the 2022 model) and damping characteristics were adjusted. An oil lock mechanism has also been added to the front side to provide a softer setting. This improves the feeling near the full bottom of the suspension even when loading heavy loads or going over large bumps, allowing the driver to enjoy a comfortable driving feel in a variety of situations, such as city driving and touring in the suburbs.
The color variations include "Matte Dark Reddish Gray Pearl 1 (Matte Dark Reddish Gray)," which features deep red flakes that sparkle in natural light and assert a hidden strength; "Black Metallic 12 (Black)," a monotone color that matches any scene; and the sporty "Dull Blue Solid B (Light Blue)," which is being used for the first time on a YAMAHA scooter.
It will be released on Friday, March 21, 2025, at a price of approx. 178,000 PHP, an increase of approx. 31,000 PHP from the previous model. Annual sales volume is expected to be 1,300 units.

With the "YECVT" installed, the crankcase, crankshaft, air cleaner, exhaust pipe, oil pump, etc. were newly designed. The cam chain tensioner was changed to a simple hydraulic tensioner and optimized to reduce friction.

The boomerang-shaped side covers, synonymous with the MAX series, have been updated. The boomerang shape, which flows from the rear to the front, is designed to distribute the energy released from the YECVT engine throughout the entire body of the motorcycle.

In addition to the existing LED headlamps and LED position lamps, LEDs are now used for the flashers. The front and rear faces have been designed to maximize their presence while keeping them compact.

In keeping with the alphabetical faces of the MAX series models, the front face features an "N" of "NMAX" and a mirrored "N." The tail lamps are designed to look like an "M" when viewed from an angle, expressing the "NMAX" name. The tail lamps are designed to look like an "M" when viewed from an angle to express the "NMAX.

The "YECVT" function is visually highlighted on the TFT display. The icons for switching driving modes (lower left) are available in two easily distinguishable colors (blue and red) so that riders can immediately recognize the mode even while driving.

When a smartphone with a dedicated application installed is connected to the motorcycle body unit, the TFT display can check the connection with the smartphone, receive incoming calls and e-mails, and automatically correct the time on the display.
