Yamaha Motor Co., Ltd. has announced that the "MT-07 ABS," a road sport model equipped with a liquid-cooled, 4-stroke, DOHC, 2-cylinder, 4-valve, 689cm3, the 270-degree crank engine developed based on the "Crossplane Concept "*, has undergone minor changes and was released for the European market. It is also scheduled to release in Japan in the spring of 2021 or later.
The new MT-07 ABS was developed based on the concept of "Accessible MT with a Fitter Body". It inherits the characteristics of the CP2 (Crossplane Concept two-cylinder) engine, which is popular with a wide range of riders, while adopting a new design to further improve overall performance.
New features include 1) a EU5 compliant CP2 engine, 2) a more comfortable and upright riding position, 3) bi-functional LED headlamps (Hi-Lo integrated), LED position lamps and flasher lamps, and 4) styling that has evolved into the next-generation MT series.
The Crossplane Concept is a design concept that efficiently extracts only the combustion torque produced by the combustion chamber alone, with little inertial torque.

New features for the 2021 model year
EU5 compliant CP2 engine
The 689cm3, liquid-cooled, twin-cylinder, 270-degree crank CP2 engine is based on the Ross-Plane concept, with a bore stroke of 80.0mm x 68.6mm and a compression ratio of 11.5:1, producing a maximum output of 54.0kW/8,750r/min and a maximum torque of 67.0N-m/6,500r/min. min.
The new air ducts, new exhaust system (new "2into1 exhaust pipe and exhaust integrated"), new ECU, and optimized fuel injection settings have been incorporated to improve the linear response characteristics at low speeds with the throttle slightly opened.
In addition, valve seats with superior wear resistance were adopted (exhaust side), the transmission dog angle was changed to improve the direct feeling when re-accelerating (2nd and 3rd gear), the catalyst position was changed, and the O2 sensor position was changed.
These features result in smoother torque output characteristics compared to previous models, and excellent acceleration characteristics.
More comfortable and upright riding position
The design around the fuel tank cover has been redesigned. The number of parts that make up the fuel tank cover area has been reduced from nine to eight, and the frame cover has been changed from die-cast aluminum to resin. The shape and three-dimensionality of the knee-grip area contribute to a more comfortable hold during sports riding.
The new aluminum tapered handlebars are also available. The new handlebars are 32mm wider on both sides and 12mm higher on the handlebars to fit riders of all sizes and ensure a relaxed riding position.
Bi-function LED headlamps (Hi-Lo integrated), LED position lamps, and flasher lamps
The new bi-functional LED headlamps feature a clear beam area and light distribution and combine low and high beams in one unit. The low beam provides good visibility near the boundary as the difference between light and dark at the boundary between the illuminated area and the outside area is small and gentle. The control unit for these headlamps is located under the pillion seat, contributing to a more compact front face.
The flasher lamp and position lamp use LEDs for the first time on the MT-07. The position lamps are independent on the left and right, and the compact headlamp design makes the MT-07 instantly recognizable.
Styling evolved into the next-generation MT series
This is the second update since the first generation in 2013 and the styling has evolved as the third generation MT series. While incorporating new design components such as the headlamps, the minimum structure is put together in an attractive form, and the parts around the headlamps are boldly pulled toward the center of the engine to reproduce the tight "mass" image typical of MT. I have. In addition, the LED position lamps feature the initials "Y" as a symbol of the third-generation MT series.
In the side view, the styling incorporates airflow movement to visually emphasize the torque and power of the MT series. The top view contrasts the airy, overhanging tank cover with the slim seat area that supports the rider's freedom of movement, creating a strong sense of inertia and expressing the power that drives the motorcycle forward.
