Honda released the CBR600RR, a supersport model equipped with a high-performance liquid-cooled, 4-stroke, DOHC, inline 4-cylinder 599cc engine and enhanced overall performance through the use of the latest electronic control and aerodynamic performance technologies, on September 25 (Friday) from Honda Dream.
The CBR600RR was developed as a supersport model of just the right size so that its high potential as a base model for production racing with production vehicles can also be enjoyed in everyday riding.
The high output, easy-to-handle power characteristics, and agile handling, which have been the hallmarks of the previous model, have been further refined to achieve a high level of compatibility between excellent power performance on the circuit and ease of handling on public roads such as winding roads. The "joy of driving" has been further pursued.
The power unit features a new camshaft, crankshaft, and other materials to achieve a higher maximum output rpm, a new inlet port shape, larger throttle bore diameter, optimized exhaust pipe size, and revised valve timing to improve intake and exhaust efficiency. The maximum output of 89 kW was achieved.
It also features the latest electronic control technology to support fun riding. The "Throttle By Wire System (TBW)" controls the throttle valve more precisely in response to throttle grip operation, and the "Riding Mode" allows the rider to select any riding feeling according to the riding conditions and the rider's preference.
The exterior styling combines aerodynamic performance and functional beauty in pursuit of athletic performance on the track. Optimized front and side projection areas and the lowest CD value*1 in its class contribute to improved wind protection and agile handling.
In addition, winglets are positioned on the front sides of the left and right front cowls to effectively generate downforce, enhancing stability when entering corners and accelerating into turns.

Main features of the CBR600RR
A power unit with both high output and controllable output characteristics
- In order to ensure high performance in production racing, the camshaft, valve springs, and crankshaft were modified to raise the maximum output to 14,000 rpm. To achieve this higher rpm, the throttle bore diameter was increased and the inlet port shape was changed. In the exhaust system, the size and thickness of the exhaust pipes have been optimized, and the valve timing has been revised to improve intake and exhaust efficiency, resulting in a maximum output of 89 kW. The water jacket shape of the cylinder head has been modified to improve the cooling efficiency of the combustion chamber and exhaust valve seat area.
- The shape of the cylinder head water jacket has been modified to improve the cooling efficiency of the combustion chamber and exhaust valve seat area.
Adoption of electronic control technology to support fun riding
- The vehicle is equipped with a body posture estimation system using an IMU (Inertial Measurement Unit). By combining the body posture information with ABS*2 and Honda Selectable Torque Control (HSTC)*3, the system provides "driving pleasure" according to the driving conditions.
*2 ABS is a system that assists the rider in braking; as with vehicles not equipped with ABS, it is necessary to slow down sufficiently before corners, etc., to avoid overexertion.
*3 Honda Selectable Torque Control is not a system designed to eliminate slipping. It is only a system that assists the rider's accelerator operation. Therefore, as with vehicles that are not equipped with Honda Selectable Torque Control, the system does not allow for unreasonable driving.
- The throttle-by-wire system (TBW) detects the throttle grip opening with the accelerator position sensor (APS) and sends a drive signal to the throttle-by-wire motor to control the throttle valve. The Riding Mode allows the rider to select the riding feel to suit the riding conditions and rider preference from a combination of the following control levels: Power Selector, HSTC, Wheelie Behavior Mitigation, and Selectable Engine Brake.
Styling that combines aerodynamic performance with functional beauty
The styling incorporates thorough aerodynamic performance technologies fed back from racing activities. The optimized front and side projection areas and the smallest CD value in its class contribute to improved wind protection and agile handling. The winglets have been optimized in terms of placement, shape, and mounting angle, and the downforce generated by the winglets contributes to improved stability on corner entry and when accelerating and turning.
Racing image-filled coloring
The body color is Grand Prix Red, a tricolor that symbolizes Honda's racing technology.
Equipment and OEM accessories designed for ease of use by the rider
- LEDs are used for the lamps*4 to make them lightweight, compact, and power-efficient.
- The full-color TFT LCD meter provides riders with a wealth of information on the vehicle and the status of the various electronic controls in an easy-to-understand manner.
- In the event of emergency braking, the hazard lamps flash at high speed to alert the following vehicle as soon as possible.
- The assisted slipper clutch is equipped with an assist function to reduce the clutch lever operation load and a slipper function to reduce rear-wheel hopping caused by the sudden engine braking associated with downshifting.
- The Quickshifter*5 is available as a separately sold genuine accessory to enable quicker shifting operations when upshifting and downshifting.

*6 The fuel consumption rate is a value under the specified test conditions. They vary depending on various conditions such as the customer's operating environment (weather, traffic congestion, etc.), driving method, vehicle condition (equipment and specifications), and maintenance status.
*7 Local fuel consumption values are fuel consumption rates based on actual measurements taken while driving at a constant vehicle speed.
*8 The WMTC mode value is a calculated value based on the results of emission tests conducted in the international standard driving mode, which includes starting, accelerating, and stopping. Driving mode classes are classified according to displacement and maximum speed.
