BMW Launches the R18 Classic, Reminiscent of the Legendary R5, the Most Powerful Boxer Engine Ever

Motorcycle & Industry

BMW has announced the launch of the R18 Classic, the second new model in the cruiser segment after the R18, and has started taking reservations.

In keeping with the heritage of historic BMW motorcycles, the BMW R5 draws on legendary models such as the BMW R5 in technology and design, while focusing on the essence of motorcycling with a boxer engine that beats comfortably and is the source of riding pleasure. The combination of classic design and modern technology provides an emotionally appealing and sophisticated riding experience.

The R18 Classic is powered by a new two-cylinder boxer engine, also known as the Big Boxer, reflecting the heritage of the traditional air-cooled boxer engine that has provided an exciting riding experience for more than 70 years since it was first produced in 1923.

The most powerful motorcycle ever built in production, with a displacement of 1,802 cc and a maximum output of 91 PS (67 kW)/Generating 4,750rpm, and with over 150Nm of torque always available in the 2,000-4,000rpm engine speed range, it combines excellent pulling power with a deep engine sound.

The heart of the suspension is the double-loop tubular steel frame, the design of which recalls the tradition of BMW motorcycles, which have used this type of frame for many years, as well as the outstanding quality and attention to detail of the less visible equipment, such as the welded joints connecting the tubular steel parts to the cast or forged parts. Even in the less visible equipment, such as the welded joints connecting the tubular steel parts to the cast or forged parts, the outstanding manufacturing quality and attention to detail can be felt. As with the R5, the rear swingarm is authentic in style, bolted around the rear axle transmission.

The suspension deliberately forgoes electronic adjustment and instead features telescopic forks at the front and stroke-dependent dampers and spring-preload-adjustable central suspension struts fixed directly to the rear for excellent wheel control and attractive suspension comfort. suspension comfort.
Like the R5, the telescopic fork tubes are housed in fork sleeves, with a fork tube diameter of 49mm and a suspension stroke of 120mm at the front and 90mm at the rear.
The braking system featured twin disc brakes at the front and a single disc brake at the rear, both with four-piston fixed calipers, and wire-spoke wheels for an extremely stylish appearance.
