2021 New X-ADV Gets Aggressive Style and New Engine!
Since its launch, the X-ADV has been well received for its powerful sporty driving performance, advanced technologies, convenient features such as a luggage compartment with excellent storage capacity, and unique design. The new X-ADV is based on the development concept of 'Smart and Exciting ADVENTURE URBAN TRANSPORTER', which further enhances its dynamic performance and convenience.
The power unit achieves both maximum output and outstanding environmental performance by reducing the weight of the pistons and other parts and optimizing the intake and exhaust systems. In addition, the new Throttle By Wire (TBW) system has been adopted as an electronic control technology to support the rider and features a riding mode that allows the rider to select any riding feeling according to their preference and various situations.
In addition, daytime running lights have been adopted for the headlights to enhance the vehicle's presence and visibility in the daytime. In addition, the Honda Smartphone Voice Control System (HSVCS)*1 has been adopted. By linking the vehicle to a smartphone via Bluetooth®*2, the system enables the driver to control music playback and phone calls using the steering wheel switches and voice input.
*1 To use the Honda Smartphone Voice Control system (HSVCS), you need to install the dedicated application. The exclusive application is for Android devices only and is not compatible with iOS devices. For details on HSVCS functions, compatible OS versions, and compatible apps, see the HSVCS-related website (https://www.honda.co.jp/tech/articles/motor/EngineerTalk_SAB/)
*2 Connection to a commercially available motorcycle compatible Bluetooth® headset (sold separately) is required to use HSVCS. Use of the application and communication charges are the responsibility of the customer.

Power Unit
- The weight of the engine itself has been reduced by 1.4 kg by removing the meat from the back of the piston, optimizing the crankshaft counterweight weight, and reviewing the balancer shaft diameter.
- For the air cleaner, the cross-sectional area of the ducts has been enlarged to reduce air intake resistance inside the ducts, and the volume ratio of the clean side has been increased to improve power output and throttle linearity at all rpm. In addition, a slope and a rectifier plate were placed near the duct exit inside the air cleaner cover to improve intake efficiency, and the throttle bore diameter was enlarged from 36mm to 38mm to increase maximum output and achieve a strong engine feel.
- The shape of the exhaust chamber has been optimized to improve the rectification effect of the exhaust, and the catalyzer has been downsized by adopting a highly efficient precious metal catalyst. The exhaust chamber has been optimized in shape to improve the exhaust rectification effect, and the catalyzer has been downsized by adopting a high-efficiency precious metal catalyst.
- The gear ratios have been optimized for 4th to 6th gears, contributing to improved acceleration feeling and fuel economy.
Body and suspension
- A newly designed diamond-style frame with a modified steel pipe configuration is used. By optimizing the thickness of each part of the frame, we were able to reduce the weight of the frame by approximately 1kg. The result is a frame that is lighter by approximately 1 kg and more responsive to the increased engine output.
- The luggage space capacity has been increased to 22 liters by reviewing the frame shape. The luggage space is equipped with a luggage light and a USB socket*3 as standard equipment, which is convenient for checking luggage, further improving usability in daily life.
- The riding position was designed for easy maneuverability in situations that require a lot of acceleration and deceleration, and for easy handling on flat dirt roads. The width of the front of the seat has been slimmed down to improve footing.
* 3 TYPE-C connector that can be inserted on both sides
Control / Electrical
- The new throttle-by-wire system (TBW) converts the rider's throttle operation into an electrical signal and controls the opening of the throttle valve. Furthermore, by combining the control levels of engine output, Honda Selectable Torque Control (HSTC)*4, engine braking, and shift schedule when AT mode is selected, the rider can select the desired riding feel in various situations.
- The Honda Smartphone Voice Control system (HSVCS) is newly adopted. By connecting the vehicle to a smartphone via Bluetooth® and operating the switch on the left-hand side of the steering wheel in accordance with the voice guidance from the headset that supports voice input, it is possible to play music and make calls without taking your hands off the steering wheel grip, thereby improving convenience.
- The headlights feature daytime running lights. During the day, the light guide between the high and low beams emits a strong light to emphasize the presence of the vehicle. At night, the vehicle detects the external brightness and automatically switches to a low beam.
- The LCD meter features a highly visible 5-inch TFT full-color LCD. The speedometer, tachometer, and fuel gauge can be changed to four different graphics depending on the rider's preference, allowing the rider to intuitively grasp a wealth of information.
- The lever for the parking brake is located near the right-hand handle grip. The lever is located near the right-hand handlebar grip for easy operation.
- A new top box 50L smart key system type*5 is available as a separately sold genuine accessory, which enables the top box to be unlocked more conveniently by linking it to the Honda SMART Key system.
*4 Honda Selectable Torque Control is not a system designed to eliminate slipping. It is only a system that assists the rider's accelerator operation. Therefore, as with vehicles that are not equipped with Honda Selectable Torque Control, the system does not allow for unreasonable driving.
*5 Not compatible with the previous model's Honda SMART Key system
Styling / Color variations
The styling has been redesigned to bring the main color parts closer to the top and front of the motorcycle body than before, creating a lighter and more dynamic feel while maintaining a sense of concentration. The result is a design with an edgy surface structure. Two-color variations are available: Pearl Deep Mud Gray for a wild and urban image and Graphite Black for a fearless and powerful impression.
