The Road to the Revival of Ninja in the Patent Illustration! KAWASAKI “ZX-4R” Under Development?

Motorcycle & Industry

At the 2019 Tokyo Motor Show, KAWASAKI announced its own smallest displacement four-cylinder imitation ZX-25R, once again showing the world the hard power of Kawasaki Heavy Industries. However, this motorcycle factory does not seem to intend to stop there. Recently, foreign media pointed out that KAWASAKI is developing a four-cylinder imitation race with a higher displacement than the ZX-25R, and it is called the ZX-4R. Whether it's true, or is it just a rumor, the information that appeared recently seems to indirectly confirm the news.

Although the ZX-25R has already made the most of the 249.8cc four-cylinder engine, it is still made for the regulations in Japan and Indonesia, and seems to be a bit less than other countries. The ZX-4R is also the start of a rumor that it could be sold at a price that meets market expectations.

However, it can be confirmed from the recent patent documents submitted by KAWASAKI to the United States that KAWASAKI has been developing ZX-4R. Although the patent drawing focuses on the air duct design of the side fairing, a large amount of air is sent to the engine side in an integrated manner. On the other hand, in order to achieve the effect of cooling the engine and the surrounding components, this is quite helpful for the high-speed four-cylinder engine, but the patent description is quite mysterious.

The patented drawing unconcernedly presents the model like ZX-25R. Through the design of the air duct, a large amount of cold air can be effectively sent to the side of the engine at high speed, achieving the same effect without expanding the heat dissipation device. Of course, this design has been applied on ZX-25R, so it is not a new discovery. However, the text of the patent mentions a very important thing, that is, the design is more suitable for application in 400cc. On the four-cylinder engine, so the new air duct design is for 400cc. The development of the four-cylinder imitation race is not an exaggeration, ZX-25R is only a product born to comply with local regulations.

However, it is absolutely unknown when KAWASAKI will bring relevant information about the ZX-4R to the table, but for the larger North American and European markets, it is imperative to increase the displacement. In any case, if the development of ZX-4R is based on ZX-25R, I believe that the time of its launch should not be too far away from us. As to whether Taiwan can introduce it, it seems to be another story.
