Yamaha Motor Co., Ltd. will release the "TRACER9 GT ABS", a sport touring model with high sporting performance and practical functions, on July 28.
The TRACER9 GT ABS was developed based on the concept of a "multi-role fighter of the motorcycle". The new model is based on the MT-09 ABS, which has been significantly upgraded and lightened in terms of both engine and bodywork, and combines high sport performance with practical functions for touring and other multi-purpose use, while incorporating weight-saving technologies to achieve one of the lightest vehicle weights in its class. The new MT-09 ABS also features a new styling that reflects the new world of TRACER.

New features of the TRACER9 GT ABS
1)New 888cm3 CP3 engine with full torque
Like the 2021 MT-09 ABS, it is powered by a 888cm3, liquid-cooled, 4-stroke, DOHC, 3-cylinder, 4-valve, CP3 (3-cylinder with cross-plane concept) engine that complies with the 2020 emission regulations. Many key parts, such as pistons and connecting rods, have been newly designed to reduce weight.
The fuel supply system has been completely redesigned. The injectors have been relocated from the cylinder head to the throttle valve side. The injectors are now mounted on the throttle valve side, instead of directly on the cylinder head, and the injection is directed to the back of the valve umbrella for better combustion efficiency. These improvements in combustion and weight reduction have resulted in improved fuel economy, while the clutch lever's operating load has been reduced to enhance the sports tourer's functionality.
2) New lightweight CF aluminum die-cast frame and special rear frame and rear arms
The new frame is based on the frame of the 2021 MT-09 ABS and has been specially tuned for the TRACER9. The brackets in front of the head pipe and the engine suspension brackets on either side of the cylinder head have been tuned to optimize the rigidity balance for this sports tourer.
The rear frame was also specially designed to ensure high-speed stability and tandem comfort. The rear arm is also specially designed, with a box structure made of welded aluminum panels to achieve both high rigidity and low weight. This allows traction to be transmitted to the rider, contributing to a sense of security at high speeds and when turning.
Specially tuned stays and brackets improve straight-line stability and turning performance when loaded. In addition, a total of three bags can be mounted, including a side case and top case, to improve load capacity.
(3) Lightweight aluminum wheels with unique SPINFORGED WHEEL technology
By developing our own aluminum material and establishing a manufacturing method, we have achieved a balance of strength and toughness comparable to that of forged wheels despite being a cast wheel. This is a lightweight wheel made with "SPINFORGED WHEEL" technology. Compared to the conventional TRACER900, the front and rear wheels are approximately 1,000g lighter and the moment of inertia has been reduced by 11% at the front and 15% at the rear, contributing to agile athletic performance.
In addition, the new BATTLAX SPORT TOURING T32 tire, developed jointly with Bridgestone Corporation and specially tuned for superior dry and wet performance, wear resistance and straight-line stability at high speeds, was adopted.
(4) Various controls to support driving operations using the new IMU
Like the 2021 model "MT-09 ABS", the newly developed "IMU" (Inertial Measurement Unit) has been installed, maintaining the basic performance of the "IMU" proven in the 2015 and later models of the "YZF-R1", while reviewing the sensor configuration to achieve a 50% reduction in size and 40% reduction in The new IMU is 50% smaller and 40% lighter.
The ECU incorporates three control systems (TCS, which also reflects bank depth, SCS, which supports turning, and LIF, which prevents the tendency of the front wheels to lift). The individual control systems work in conjunction with each other to support the driving operation and bring out the potential of the machine efficiently. The intervention level of each system can be adjusted and turned on and off. The systems are also used to control the new cornering lamps and electronically controlled suspension.
5) KYB front and rear electronically controlled suspension for superior ride comfort and ground feel
KADS (KYB Actimatic* Damper System), an electronically controlled suspension system jointly developed with KYB, is used to achieve both sportiness and ride comfort. The SCU (Suspension Control Unit) optimizes the damping level based on information from the IMU, ECU, and HU (Hydraulic Unit). The damping force adjustment mechanism uses a solenoid drive for the first time in our history, which enables quick and large damping force adjustment, resulting in excellent ground contact feel and high road-following performance during sports driving.
There are two modes: one for sporty dry driving and the other for wet driving, and the latter aims for a comfortable ride when driving long distances.
*Actimatic: Coined from the words "Active" and "Automatic", it expresses the high motor performance obtained by automatic adjustment.
6) Styling that expresses mobility and functionality
We've removed as many elements as possible for aesthetic purposes, giving top priority to the functions of travel. Based on the condensed platform of the MT-09 ABS, the screen, front cowl, brush guard and other mechanisms for optimal wind protection have been compactly integrated into a design that prioritizes function for travel. A newly designed screen for improved wind protection and a front cowl express the propulsion towards the destination. The compact brush guard and floating 3.5" double TFT instrumentation contribute to a wide field of vision and a movable range of steering wheel angles, creating an atmosphere of nimble handling and enjoying the scenery on the journey.
(7) Enhanced equipment and body structure for even greater comfort and functionality as a sports tourer
●The cornering lamp is designed to reduce the burden on the rider when riding at night.
The new cornering lights illuminate when the vehicle speed is above approximately 5 km/h and the bank angle exceeds 7 degrees. The inside cornering lamp is switched on in either high or low beam mode and becomes brighter as the bank angle increases, helping the rider to ride at night.
●Brackets for side cases with built-in dampers to enable mounting of 3 bags
Equipped with a stay for the factory accessory side cases. Our original vibration control technology is applied to damp the vibration of the side case, resulting in a high level of high-speed stability and turning performance when the side case is mounted.
●3.5 inch double TFT meter
The left main meter features a digital bar tachometer that changes color according to the RPM, fuel gauge, average fuel consumption, water temperature gauge, outside air temperature gauge, shift indicator, and ETC card insertion confirmation*. The set speed of the cruise control system can also be checked on the meter. On the right side of the meter, four types of information can be selected from each information and enlarged, ensuring good visibility.
When the JRM-21 on-board ETC unit for motorcycles with a separate antenna is installed and connected to the ETC connector on the vehicle, the ETC indicator display function in the meter can be used. This image is for photographic purposes only and does not show the actual driving conditions.
●New Grip Warmer
By using thin rubber for the grip part where fingers touch, the warmth of the heater is easily transmitted. It is also easy to grip. The heater can be adjusted in 10 steps with a ring switch, allowing fine adjustment of the level for environmental changes, from extremely cold weather to early morning in the summer.
●Comfortable new riding position with improved footing
The TRACER900 is equipped with a newly designed large windscreen with 10 adjustable screen heights in 5mm increments, and a windproof brush guard for added wind protection. In addition, the 810mm seat height, 40mm lower than the TRACER 900, provides a comfortable riding position. The footrests, handlebars and main seat can be adjusted in two positions to suit the rider's preference.
