Yamaha Motor Co., Ltd. will release its new road-sport model "MT-07 ABS" on July 28, 2021. The new model combines fun-to-drive performance with a design that looks great on the street and excellent cost performance.

The new MT-07 ABS has been developed based on the concept of 'Accessible MT with a Fitter Body'. It inherits the characteristics of the CP2 (two-cylinder with cross-plane concept)* engine, which is popular with a wide range of riders, but features a new design that further improves overall performance.

New features include: 1) a CP2 engine that complies with the 2020 emissions regulations, 2) a more comfortable and upright riding position, 3) bi-functional LED headlamps (Hi-Lo integrated), LED position lamps and flasher lamps, and 4) styling that has evolved into the next-generation MT series. and more. The new model inherits the nimble operability, unique style and high quality feel of the previous model, and improves the overall performance.

The Crossplane Concept is a design concept that efficiently extracts only the combustion torque produced by the combustion chamber alone, with little inertial torque.

New features for the 2021 model year

(1) CP2 engine that complies with the 2020 exhaust gas regulations

Based on the conventional engine, the air duct, exhaust system specification change (new "2into1 exhaust pipe and exhaust system integrated type"), ECU specification change, and optimization of fuel injection setting are incorporated to refine the linear response characteristic in the low-speed range when the throttle is opened slightly. At the same time, we have made it compliant with the emission regulations of 2020.
In addition, valve seats with superior wear resistance have been adopted (on the exhaust side), and the dog angle of the transmission has been changed to improve the direct feeling when re-accelerating (2nd and 3rd gears). These changes have resulted in a smoother torque curve than the previous model, resulting in superior acceleration characteristics.

The exhaust system has been optimized using the latest acoustic analysis technology. In particular, the tone of the sound at low speeds and low opening angles has been created to create a pulsing sound that contributes to the powerful acceleration typical of the CP2 with its 270° crank.

2) More comfortable and upright riding position

The design around the fuel tank cover has been redesigned. The number of parts that make up the fuel tank cover area has been reduced from nine to eight, and the frame cover has been changed from die-cast aluminum to resin. The shape and three-dimensionality of the knee-grip area contributes to a more comfortable hold during sports riding.

The new aluminum tapered handlebars are also available. The new handlebars are 32mm wider on both sides and 12mm higher on the handlebars to fit riders of all sizes and ensure a relaxed riding position.

3) Bi-function LED headlamps (Hi-Lo integrated), LED position lamps and flasher lamps

The new bi-functional LED headlamps feature a clear beam area and light distribution, and combine low and high beams in one unit. The low beam provides good visibility near the boundary because the difference between light and dark at the boundary between the illuminated area and the outside area is small and gentle.

The flasher lamp and position lamp use LEDs for the first time on the MT-07. The left and right position lamps are independent of each other, and the compact headlamp design makes the MT-07 instantly recognizable.

4) Styling evolved into the next-generation MT series

This is the second update since the first generation in 2014 and the styling has evolved as the third generation MT series.

While incorporating new design components such as the headlamps, the minimum structure is put together in an attractive form, and the parts around the headlamps are boldly pulled toward the center of the engine to reproduce the tight "mass" image typical of MT. I have. In addition, the LED position lamps feature the initials "Y" as a symbol of the third-generation MT series.

In the side view, the styling incorporates airflow movement to visually emphasize the MT series' torque and power. The top view contrasts the airy, overhanging tank cover with the slim seat area that supports the rider's freedom of movement, creating a strong sense of inertia and expressing the power that drives the motorcycle forward. The new LCD multifunction meter is compact in design and has a negative display.
