Since its debut in 1999, the SV650 has been launched as SUZUKI's entry-level street motorcycle. Although the SV650S, with its sportier appearance, and the SV650X, with its neo-classical style, have been introduced as derivatives, the basic structure of the V-twin engine has not changed much since its launch.
However, rumors have been circulating recently that SUZUKI, stimulated by the recently launched YZF-R7, will use the SV650's V-twin engine as the basis for developing a sport motorcycle that can compete with competitors with twin-cylinder engines such as the Aprilia RS660 and KAWASAKI Ninja 650!

Powerful performance, bright design, compliance with environmental regulations and reasonable price, CP value of the middle-displacement sports motorcycle, motorcycle brands are gradually becoming a must-compete area. Yamaha's new YZF-R7, KAWASAKI's Ninja 650, HONDA CBR500R with smaller displacement, and even the European brand Aprilia have launched RS660 to get a piece of the pie, which shows how big this market is.
On the contrary, as one of the four major Japanese brands, SUZUKI has only the SV650 and V-STROM 650 in its middle displacement class, and the GSX-R750 and GSX-R600 with parallel four-cylinder engines have long been discontinued, leaving only a trace of them still on sale in North America.
In light of this, will SUZUKI give up the pie in the middle-displacement sports motorcycle category? Although there is no answer to this question yet, the Spanish media Motorbikemag and designer Oberdan Bezzi have already worked together to create and design a CG mock-up of the future SUZUKI middleweight sports motorcycle, the SV650RR.
Compared to the flagship GSX-R1000R, the SV650RR is covered with a fairing, but the steel tube frame of the SV650 is obvious from the middle section of the motorcycle. The headlight side is presumed to be taken from the GSX-R150 design, and with the inverted front fork and mid-mounted rear shock, the appearance is more in line with SUZUKI's MotoGP factory motorcycle GSX-RR, and more enthusiastic and sporty than the SV650, which is currently positioned as a street motorcycle.
Unfortunately, the above CG mockups are only speculation by the online media. Even if SUZUKI really wants to use the SV650 as a base and pass the latest environmental standards to enter the middleweight sports motorcycle market, there is still a long way to go. Let's wait and see!
